Official Competition Rules

Rules for Mud-A-Cross Mud Race

The Mud-A-Cross Mud Race will be held on a circular or oval shaped course with varying depths of primarily water with a soft bottom. Participants will enter the track two or more ATVs at a time and participate in side-by-side elimination style heats until the final race for the winners. Depending on the number of entrants and High Lifters discretion as to the proper number of participants at one time, heat races will be conducted and the winners will move on toward the final race.

The course will be primarily muddy water with some small amount of mud at the bottom. The depth will be approximately 1’ to 4’ at the deepest point and most of the course will be 2 to 3 feet with underwater humps and holes.

Snorkels and extended vent lines are highly recommended as the depth of the water could exceed the height of the air intake on some ATVs. It should be clear to everyone that this is an event that if the machine is not properly prepared, serious damage to the engine or other components occur. Participants will enter and compete at their own risk. Riders should be skilled in deep water riding.

Classes

500 cc or less - for ATVs which are essentially stock or lightly modified with manufacturers designation of 500 cc's or less. These machines may include the same performance items as specified in the stock class mud bog rules, which typically include performance pipes, jet kits. Oversize ATV mud tires or Ag tires up to 30”, and items typically installed on bikes ridden in the mud. There will be no separate distinction for IRS, solid rear axle or 2x4 or 4x4 ATVs as ground clearance is not a large advantage and the front tire will rarely be on the bottom.

More than 500 cc - This class will be ATVs with the same type equipment but with engines of 500 cc’s or more. There will be no separate distinction for IRS, solid rear axle or 2x4 or 4x4 ATVs as ground clearance is not a large advantage and the front tire will rarely be on the bottom.

OPEN - The final class will be an Open class and include any ATV which has equipment such as paddles, extreme lift kits (more than 2 inches suspension lift), ag or other tires taller than 30”, nitrous oxide, alcohol burning engine or other device which in the judgment of HL would make for unfair competition in the stock class.

If there are at least 3 entrants in the RUV class, there will be a class for them. If so the class will be an open style class.

The rules for conduct of the competition will be the same as the Mud Bog.
Helmets are required
Disqualification for going out of bounds
Keep at least one foot on the bike at all times
Disqualification once outside assistance is rendered to a stuck or disabled machine
Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification. This would include such actions as intentionally pushing a competitor off course or other conduct which was intentional and beyond that which is customary in side by side racing.
Restarts with penalty for false starts and disqualification for the second false start in one heat.
Decisions of the judges are final.

Rules for Kiddie Bog

This event will have its own shallow mud pit which will be designed for competition of young children.

Class 1 will be for machines up to 89cc’s as determined by the manufacturers designation.

Class 2 will be for machines of 90ccs up to and including 125 ccs as determined by the manufacturers designation of that machine.  No ATV larger than a 125 will be allowed to compete in this event.

Class 3 will be for machines up to 400 ccs and will include riders 14-15. No ATVs larger than 400 cc's will be allowed to compete in this event. This division is NOT an "OPEN CLASS!"

Guidelines for this class are very similar to those of the SuperTrapp Mud Bog for the IRS and SRA divisions with the exception of ground clearance. Class 3 Kiddie Bog quads are allowed up to 21 " of Ground Clearance. However, they are only allowed standard bolt-on engine mods such as jet kits, air filters, and pipes, etc. Please remember that this event is designed so that younger riders have a chance to feel the adrenaline of competition and is meant to promote healthy riding under these conditions and good sportsmanship for the next generation of mud rider.

There is no restriction on tires however the machine must be essentially stock to compete.  High Lifter reserves the right to exclude any machine that is equipped with any device that would tend to make for unfair competition.  ATVs with devices such as paddles will not be permitted to compete.

Participants must wear helmets and the parent or guardian of each participant must be present at the event and be prepared to render assistance to the participant should it be needed.  By entering this event, parents are certifying that they have inspected the course in advance of the event and that the child is of sufficient age and experience to operate his machine and negotiate the course and release High Lifter, Mud Creek, all sponsors, officials and other participants of any liability in connection with accidents or injury that occur in connection with the event.

Entry fee will be $10.00 per child per class entered.

Maximum age permitted to enter class 1 is 12

Maximum age to enter class 2 is 13

In the event that any participant is observed operating his machine in an unsafe manner he may be disqualified and excluded from competition.

Participants will otherwise operate with the same rules as the adult mud Bogs concerning assistance, boundaries, false starts and pushing of their machines.

Depending on the number of entrants in each class, heats will include up to 3 participants per heat.

Rules for Team Gorilla Run 2007

The Team Gorilla Run is a TWO-MAN Cross Country Mud Bog/Endurance race.  Two team members will leave the starting line at the same time on EITHER two ATVs or one.  If the team chooses to use two ATVs and one ATV becomes stuck, the team may elect to regain forward progress of the “stuck” ATV by using the second ATV and/or both team members to push, pull, winch, or other process or desert the stuck ATV and continue the race on one ATV.  Teams will leave the starting line at APPROXIMATELY 2-minute intervals.  Start times will be documented and compared to finish times to determine the winner.  Teams must reach the "turn-around" point and "go around the cone" or other checkpoint determined in advance by competition officials. When teams reach the halfway point, they will turn and head back to the finish line through the marked trail.  Two Team Members must finish the race.  Finishing teams may complete the race on either ONE or TWO ATVs.  Fastest time wins1st, 2nd, and 3rd places will be awarded prizes and trophies for each team member.

Leaving the designated trail will result in a 1-minute penalty per occurance.

Rules for SuperTrapp Mud Bog and Moose Mud Chic Shootout

  • Rules
    • High Lifter reserves the right to makes decisions as it sees fit to promote fairness in the competition.  All decisions by the judges are final.
    • Riders may sign up for multiple classes but must ride a different quad in each class.  Each quad is limited to one class.  The only exception is if a major change is made to the quad that will significantly change its racing characteristics.  These changes can include significant changes to the suspension such as lengthening the swing arm or control arms, adding dual tires, changing to tracks, adding NOS, etc.  Adding or enabling NOS alone will not qualify as a major change.  Changing tire size will not qualify as a major change.
    • Participants may push their ATV if they become stuck.  There is no one foot rule in force.
    • No person but the rider may touch the participating ATV during the race.  If any other party touches the participating ATV during the course of the race, the rider will be immediately disqualified.
    • Boundaries of the mud bog will be clearly marked with flags and/or banners. Participants who partially leave the course with any portion of their ATV will be disqualified.
    • If a rider commits a false start, (leaving the gate early) this rider will be charged one ATV length and the race will be restarted.  If a rider commits a second false start, this rider will be disqualified.
    • DOT Helmets, boots and gloves must be worn during any ArenaBog Competition.  Motocross style boots are not required.  No oilfield/construction hardhats or military helmets will be allowed.  Boots mean waders, leather work boots, rubber knee boots, motocross boots, lace up boots, etc. over the ankles.  This is intended to prevent sandals, flip flops, tennis shoes and any other type of open toe shoe.  Rubber scubbba type boots are excluded also.  Racers must wear foot protection that will completely cover the foot and go over the ankle.  Any glove that covers the entire hand to the wrist is acceptable.
    • All ATVs entered in this event must have a means of attaching a tow rope to the ATV should it become disabled or stuck during the event.
    • Except for the Children classes, riders must be at least 16 to enter this event.
    • All entrants must sign a waiver in advance releasing High Lifter and sponsors from liability.  A parent or guardian who will execute the waiver must accompany entrants less than 18 years of age.
    • No late registrations will be accepted.
    • If a rider registers for the wrong class that rider will be moved to the appropriate class and given the opportunity to race.  If an ATV exceeds a class then it will be bumped to the next highest class.  If it doesn’t meet that class, it will be bumped to the next highest class.  In other words it will be allowed to run in the smallest class it qualifies for – not automatically raised to the highest class.  No refunds will be given if the rider chooses not race.
    • In the event that any participant is observed operating his machine in an unsafe or unsportsmanlike manner he may be disqualified and excluded from competition.
    • Entrants may enter any class that they are not disqualified from entering.  In other words, a racer can race in their class or in a higher class.  You cannot race down a class.
    • Females may enter any class for which their machine qualifies.
    • IRS and SRA quads will compete against each other.  In this type of mud pit there are no ruts that will give an IRS quad an advantage so the classes will be based on engine size.
    • High Lifter reserves the right for its staff to participate in the competition.  If any employee of High Lifter should win any cash prize, High Lifter will donate the cash prize to a charitable organization (IRS approved tax exempt 501 c3).  The employee may keep any trophy awarded.
    • All rules are subject to modification as needed to promote fairness in the competition.
