Has anyone heard about any performance exhaust for the 850 yet?

Not sure if there is going to be any gain as the stock system looks like it flows very well.

Yea, I think it would be a waste of money. From what I hear the old 800's were the same way. Good flow and a 300+ dollar exhaust seems like a waste to me.

Agreed, Don't think you can do much with the exhaust header/piping. It looks very free flowing for a stock set up,although hard to say about the muffler. Seems very quiet,so it may be a restriction that could be improved upon possibly.

You can never have too much power.  There are always improvements over stock.  If you spend 9,000$ on an atv whats 300 more to get the most out of it.  I'm sure you guys aren't going to spend over 1k on installing bigger tires to increase the already impressive 12" ground clearance.

I am looking for an aftermarket pipe as well. what I would really like to see, is some sort of duals come out for it that can be made to exit out the back.

One of the things that has crossed my mined was to take the stock exhaust and open it up with some larger chome tips where the tiny factory tips are located. If that big coffy can could be somehow opened up and the exit openings made larger. It should flow better, sound better and look better.

I agree with that whole heartily, I am a HP junkie. My latest project was a 900 RWHP Twin Turbo Mustang Cobra. All I was saying was the pipe looked pretty good, muffler appears to be a restriction to me. I should have reworded what I said, I'm sure the pipe can be improved, but not sure if it would be worth the money TO ME. Now add some head work and the pipe would. Of course this is all specualtion until someone does some testing.
With 11:1 compression I'd be interested in a tuner that would allow ignition advance, of cousre that would require higher octane fuel. But with that CR there is quite a bit of untapped power when it is set up for 87.

I agree the head pipes looks like they would be pretty tough to improve on. The giant coffey can muffler on the other hand, is where I think some real improvements could be made.

Yep. IMO they must have the igniton timing pretty mild to run 87 safely.

My local dealer has an 850XP and we I didn't test ride it as I can't really buy one right now and didn't want to fall in love with it but when they started up that monster it sounded awesome.  Personally I'd leave the exhaust stock.  It sounded much deeeper and stronger than the 800.

You can really feel that compression when you start it and when you shut it down. It don't wind up or wind down, "bump, bump" it fires and "bump, bump" it stops. While it sounds meaner it also sounds alot more refined overall than the 800. So far I love mine.  I'd love to hear the exhaust uncorked a little. I though about disconnecting the muffler for the heck of it just to hear it.

I'm thinking about slicing my muffler in two and seeing what can be done inside to open it up a little.  Also going to enlarge the small exhaust exits.  I hate to cut on a brand new atv but I've been outrun by a brute force.  Needless to say he had some work done, but we can't be having that!  I'll let ya'll know how it turns out when I finish.  I saw a video of darryl rath racing an 850 and it didn't sound stock to me.  If I screw it up maybe there will be something out shortly.

Thats pretty much what I was thinking about, in post #5, I would love to see some pics of what you find inside that can. I had not though about cutting it in two. I was thinking cutting one end off, but cutting it in two might work better. I am not sure how that can is made inside.

Youre fighting a loosing battle if you want to be the fastest. Polaris is way heavier than the jap stuff, so even if you build it a built lighter brute or can am will  most likely beat you near every time. Now that said you can probably beat most of the quads brute or can am if both of you are stock.

Had to be a supercharged, twin turbo, nitrous injected Brute to beat a stock 850XP.

There are always improvements over stock.

At 69 hp from an 850cc quad I would just about bet it has a pretty good flowing exhaust on it stock.

The 09 Can Am 800R is 67 hp and the 950 AC Thundercat is only 66 hp.

That makes me think the 2 800cc class quads are tuned pretty good stock.

Rooster-How much time your machine have on it?

I'm telling you if someone comes out with a tuner that will remap the timing curve for 93 or higher, say 100, that will be the money IMO. Probably single best power mod without tearing down the engine, or adding a power adder. Of course in that case the stock exhaust would be more taxed and more flow would be an even greater benefit.

It'll probably take a few more months before we see an aftermarket exhaust for the XP, but I hope someone comes w/a true dual set-up. It'll be whichever aftermarket company gets their hands on an 850 XP first. Whoever's got one,if you ripped out the stock exhaust, heat shield, and storage area, do you think there's room for a straight-out dual set-up? I saw the Rath video someone mentioned above, and I agree, it sounded pretty uncorked. Rath's got FMF as a sponsor, so maybe he's developing an FMF exhaust for it. By the way, GNCC bumped the CC cap for utility quads from 840 to 850 so the XP's legal for 09'. I just hope they bumped the U2 class also, and we'll be seeing an 850cc sport 4x4 replacement quad from Polaris to compete against the Renegade.

I haven't had it over 70mph yet.  I run a 350ft sand drag at the local mud bog.  This is where the brute got me.  i really don't care to run 80mph I just like to get to 60 really fast.  And of course to sound good.  I've got only 40 miles on it right now.  Going to the Big Woods ATV park this weekend in NC.  Ride time shall greatly increase.  I'm all up for a tuner like highoctane mentioned also.  If you hear of a good one please let me know.  I'm interested in bolting on any accessory that will boost performance without having to go into the engine.

If a brute outran that 850, you better carry it back to the dealer and have them put the other spark plug in it because thats the only way a brute will outrun it, unless you were having problems holding the front end down.  Like said above, it would take a brute with HEAVY mods to beat a 850.

LOL,I said the same thing about the guy who said he and his buddy wasn't impressed compared to their 800's. It was sand drags though and I'm willing to bet the 850 was throwing rooster tails the whole way...the stock tires do not hold the power at all except maybe on asphalt IMO.  I'll try to get some video this weekend, I can smoke the tires at will in dry dirt from pretty much any speed. I plan on putting some XTRs on this weekend hopefully.

Let us know if the tires fit with stock wheels. The clearance looks tight on the rear for width.

Unfortunately  I won't be going to get the tires this weekend, something else came up I have to do. I wasn't going to use the stock wheels, but it looks like there is 1-1.25" between the stokcers and the sway bar.
