First off i know that my winch is underpowered for my machine but thats besides the point.

I have a superwinch at2000.  And i have noticed that it really doesn't have a whole lot of pulling power. For example i hooked it up to a tree branch like 7 ft high and tried to see if it would lift the front of the quad off the ground and it wouldn't even get the front tires up at all.

I just bought the quad so i don't know if its hooked up correctly or how old it is. Any ideas as to how to fix the problem.

Start with cleaning all the connections.  If that doesn't do it, you're gonna need a volt meter to see where the extra "work" is going thatfor one reason or another isn't making it to the cable.

i checked all the winch connections and all is clean and tight i am wondering if this winch is just old and no longer has the same pulling power is should.

My honda rancher 350 has a Cabelas 2000lb winch made by superwich, which seems to be the exact same winch but its only a year old and i have no idea how old the winch is on my polaris. But the honda's winch has much more power and is more than capable of lifting the front of the quad off the ground and probebly the whole quad off the ground if i tried.

now i know the honda is lighter but trust me the winch on my polaris is much weaker. just holding the back brake will stop it from pulling. Sorry for making such a long post, just trying to be clear. Thanks for all the help!!!

I have a Warn right now that does the same thing. I can't figure out what happened to it. A buddy gave it to me thinking I could get it working but I had no such luck. Everything seems to be in working order there is just no power. I can hold the cable tight and make the motor stop? Good luck with it. I gave up a while back.

So the next step is to get a volt meter right at the winch, and see if it's got all the available voltage it should have while it's operating under at least a moderate load.  That'll isolate if the trouble is with conducting electricity to and/or from the motor, or if the motor has the electricity it needs and there are mechanical issues that are holding the winch back from within.
