Hi
I have a MX 4000lb viper winch. I was wondering  if I could hookup the controller (red wire) directly to the battery. Or Can I install my own switch to turn off controller. This switch would be between Battery and controller. They suggest to hook it up to the live wire going to key switch. Or is there another way of hooking up the red wire  from the controller not going to the key switch. The original winch that was on the utv could be run without the utv being on. If I could use my own switch it would be mounted in the glove box.
thanks
Ron

Hi
Thanks  for the help. But I'm going to put a 30 amp fuse in between battery and  switch  just to make sure all is okay. They tell you to hook up to the key switch and its hooked up to the Solenoid which has a 30 amp fuse.

well i have no idea how many amps run throught the switch wires but i know it is no where near 30 amps beacause that would fry those 16 guage wires instantly. a 30 amp fuse is way ovekill and wont ever get blown. maybe someone else can give you and idea of how many amps run through there i would guess around 10

Hi
I'm going to put a 10 amp fuse in. I bought a switch and a fuse holder and I'm getting everything ready. I hope that by installing the contact switch that came with my mx 4000lb viper winch will solve my problem with plow not staying up. We will find out on the weekend
thanks
Ron
