if i put a hmf on my rancher 420 will it hurt the motor to run it wothout the opimiser?

no my friend runs an hmf on his without it no problems yet his is an 07 420 efi

I would say that long term you would have negative effects.  If nothing happened right away, it will probably bite you later.  You will be running lean and may not even know it (like the above posters friend) and will eventually cause problems.

well i run one with hmf utilty and snorkle for a year and no prob yet?

there running so rich from the factory i dont think it will hurt..........the maps ive seen take away lots of fuel.

I have to agree with jrafter on this one. Even with my pipe on the map i have set is still taking away a lot of fuel. You should be fine.


Why did honda make them run so rich from the factory?

It does alot !! You can adjust it and tune your bike to be near perfect. Take away alot of that richness in the bike and get it fine tuned.
