Viper! Got one and have been very happy with it. They are fully sealed (at least one i got is) and i went with the synthetic cable. Super strong stuff. Also try doing a search on the subject. There have been many reviews/arguments on the subject. Also try over in "Atv Accessories" . Might be able to find more over there

buy yourself a warn, just make sure it's an xt or rt. they're sealed. i have been thru a couple of the "sealed" vipers, and they didnt last. ive had three since june.....the warn i originally had worked amazing but i sold it with my old brute. wont make the mistake of buying a cheap imitation again !

warn or nothing !

I can almost guarantee it wasnt Warn's fault he went threw 4. Thats just down right abuse using a winch where it shouldnt be used and going under water like they shouldnt be. Have a Warn on all the bike we ever owned and they have never let us down with pulling elk, moose, deer, and dead cattle with.

I've had my warn under water too many times to count, never had any problems with it.

Get a viper at least 3500lbs. I have used smaller & different brands, they seem to struggle & not last. My Viper has outlasted my buddies Warn.

i agree on warn or nothing but when you say only the xt and rt are sealed. you are incorrect.  the warn 3.0ci and the 4.0ci are sealed.  i have both of them and can tell you for a fact they are.  the 2.5ci and smaller are not sealed.

If I recall correctly in the CI and CE series the 3.0 and 4.0 were fully sealed, and the 2.5's motor was sealed.  With the new RT and XT series, the 25, 30 and 40 are all fully sealed.

Anyhow, I've run my 2.5 while submerged under mud several times, and I've never even had it apart to clean and regrease (abusive IMHO).

On the Rinny I went with the XT30.  The new ones seem to run quieter, and I really like having a synthetic line, and especially the remote control.  It saves a trip from the quad to the ancor point, slogging through the mud or snow or whatever you are stuck in.

The only minus I could think of with an XT30 or XT40 would be that they aren't cheap.

I had Warn 2500lbs winch on my Honda and I never had any problems out if it and I abused it like crazy.  This time I went with a Viper 4000lbs winch that I got today.  I'll be installing it here in a day or so.  I just thought I'd go with something different this time.  If this winch screws up to many times I'll go back to Warn.

I've got a Warn XT2500 and mostly use it for raising/lowering the snow plow...which really doesn't put it under much of a load, but it gets used a LOT.  It's worked like a charm for several seasons now.  I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but for short trips, I always use it to tie down the front of my quad...pull it onto the trailer, winch down the front a bit, then add a tie down on the rear and ta-dah, done....
