pulled the wet-clutch, " clutch-carrier," dealer said, should have at least, 1 mm, of clutch surface left, or replace it, anybody do one of these ? this is on a 2006 wolverine 450, i've got around 1mm left plus outer housing has grooves in it from clutch plates, wondering if i need to replace that as well ?

They are supposed to be replaced as a set.  Mine probably need to be replaced, but it still goes good, so I'll wait a few more thousand miles :)

thanks, vt-grizzly, i'm down here in assachusetts, was your machine slipping ?  on take off ? clutch looks worn, but hate to spend  almost $ 400.00
if i don't have to. wolverine has only 1220 miles on it, can't understand why clutch would be gone already. i did use some crappy oil in it for a while, they say don't use energy conserving oil, because of the clutch pack.

Mine seems like it slips a little, but not bad.  The tires are usually spinning either way.  I can't see spending $400 either, until it's really needed.  Crappy oil will cause premature wet clutch wear.  "Taxachusetts", howdy neighbor.  I've been running premium motorcycled oil that's made for a wet clutch (non synthetic - Mobile I think).  After I've got more hours on my bbk, I'll switch back to Yamalube 20W50 full synthetic.

swamp star, i'm a little confused, this wolverine is slipping badly, if yours was metal to metal, did yours slip ? mine has deep grooves in clutch housing, but still have some material on carrier, yet got to rev it hard to move it.

I wouldn't be surprised if your clutch shoes wear out much more prematurely.  With a new housing, the new clutch shoes will wear into it and seat.  Same thing with rings and a cylinder.  You don't put new rings in an old cylinder, you have to hone it to give it a new finish so the rings will seat properly.

well this is very interesting, Camlaw i am in the same shoes as you. i have a 2007 wolverine 450 with pretty close to the same milage as you. and have the exact same problem , slips big time on at low end, now i do have some mods done to mine, not sure about you but any info you can give would be great..

i have an epi clutch kit for big tires, hmf pipe , jet kit , and k an n air filter, so a bit more power. i have been phoning everyone with any clutch knowlage i can trying to figure out what caused this premature wear. i have to replace my whole unit including all the bearings as it was making one **** of a noise in there, i thought i had a conecting rod bearing out forsure...

i sent my sheave off to hauck machine works today to have my primary machined to gain top and bottom end , plan on using my stock wet clutch springs this time( some people think the epi ones were to stiff ) was your clutches wearing on one end way more than the other? mine was, i do not think it has been fullin engaging could be from the springs being to stiff.

i am aslo trying to figure out if the rollers or weights are not correct size.... all i know is i do not want to replacing 500 bucks worth of wet clutches every year... that is brutal.....

wish i could help you out, but all i know is my 2006 wolverine 450 was stock except. 1.5" spacers in rear. ss112" rims and 25" 589's. i think what might of happened to mine is cheap oil?,  grand-son would get stuck in mud, and hammer on it. friend who is mechanic, thinks the wet-clutch would possibly slip, before a dry tight belt. i don't know. my clutch pack was wearing a little un-even. but was stock. think these machines arent geared low enough, for heavy tires, heavy mud, and a heavy thumb.

well i know the 589 is one of the heaviest tires you can buy, i would put some sort of clutch kit in it for those tires......but the oil and heavy thumb in the mud can be an issue too...

yeah, grand-son. don't know when to quit.  trys to keep up with me on my grizzly 700, with 30" mudlites.  tell ya, he has, most of the time. but he's reaked havoc, on machine. god love him.
