yeah, def. sleeve it, it would be hard to weld it correctly because they are made from one solid bar, not 2 pieces. plus how would you know if ur straight

Does anyone have any pictures? What size pipe would be used? couldn't you weld the axle together, grind and sleeve?

No, you can't weld an axle directly.  But you can fiddle with them.  You need a sleeve (steel tubing) that is an exact match to the outer diameter of the axle bar and an appropriate length.  You can get away with welding the sleeve to the axle.  Just watch the heat, don't overdo it.   Welding the axle to it's self, or "splicing" in another piece of axle bar just doesn't work out.

And make sure to plug weld it a few times for added strength.

thats what i was thinking. prob will tig it to keep the heat down. most likely i will mill some heavy pipe to sleeve it. was also thinking about plug welding it a few times also, so from the sound of it, i am on the right track. thanks for the input guys. When finished i plan to have a 6" lift over stock on a cat. waiting on a local salvage shop to locate brute axles and A-arms to get the kawi up 6" also. thinking about 4" wider than stock, is that about right?

Don't know about the over stock size, but go ahead and see what angle the axles are as it sits and try not to exceed that angle when you build the lift.  Somebody should be able to chime in here and tell you the max cv angle you can have.  There's a thread on building a new lift in the yamaha section that might give you some pointers as well.  Good luck.
