has anyone figured out a way to make the water pumps on the twins last? ive tried snorkeling the overflow but still no luck. my 700 has about 700 miles on it and is on its 4th water pump seal and my 800 has 60 miles and is dripping after my last ride. Is the dirt coming in through the weep hole on the bottom of the water pump housing?

Sheesh 4 already!?  If you do not run and antifreeze you should because it helps lubricate the pump. I am not familiar with ATV systems but I am with general automotive and it sounds like you are getting grit into the water system from somewhere to be killing the seals so fast. If the weep hole is where it can get packed with mud that will cause a problem. Is it where you can tap it just enough to screw in a fitting wan add a small hose with a plug so you can block the grit but still see if it leaks? Also double check your overflow to see if there is any dirt, sand, etc at the bottom of it.

what some guy's are doing is take a grease fitting file it down & take the ball & spring out. put it in the weep hole & use it as a fitting like rcb2875 said.or some guy's put grease in the weep hole so mud will not get in there but when the coolant leaks out there the grease will run out.

Thats right, if you dont flush it, whatever caused the last seal to go bad is probly still in your coolant.

It's like the old saying goes:
"You can't keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results"

DO NOT DO THIS! The weep hole is there, so that when the seal goes bad, the coolant has somewhere to go. If its plugged and the oil  seal (behind the coolant seal) goes bad, you WILL milk your oil with coolant.

I'll say one thing that has seemed to help me. I went through a few seals in what I thought was a fairly quick time. I pulled the rad and flushed it and all hoses and engine really good. Filled the system up and ran it hard for a bit then drained and reflushed. Filled with fresh coolant and some water wetter. For me the problem was the overflow. It was snorkeled but just a little bit of dirt/sand alwaws seemed to seep in from somewhere. So I got me a small in-line fuel filter and put that in the overflow line between the rad and overflow bottle. Was kind of worried about it falling apart but its held for a year now. No problems.     Aslo, don't plug the weep hole.

If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer.

ok pulled my front storage box off found a small coolant hose that runs from the filler neck over to the top of the radiator on the right side war cut almost all the way in two the factory had held it in place with a zip tie and it is right next to a bolt head on the frame i guess the hose was caught in between the bottom of the storage compartment and the bolt on the frame so i replaced the hose and sent it to get a new water pump seal i will make sure that they flush the coolant system
