I made a icechest stereo and the speakers were mounted to the top. I used 2 way Pioneer 6 1/2's. They were the plastic cones but had the tweeter coming out through the middle. As long as they aren't paper cone, which most aren't, it is ok to spray them down. Problem is that in the middle of the cone, the water seeps down and into the icechest or tube. If you can spray them without getting water through there to damage a cd player or amp, you're fine. You have to be VERY careful though.

When I sprayed my non marine speaker down it got through and got my amp wet. Now I had to replace the speakers and the amp!

Even with marine speakers if they aren't mounted vertical.  Water can seep down in between the cone and magnet.  Happen when I had my marine speakers mounted in a box.  I change my setup to the sound tube and haven't had any problems what soever.  So if there are horizontal then rotate box, cooler, etc so they are verticle and rinse and let dry for a little so no water will seep in!
