I still have not heard back on if my KQ tranny issue is going to be covered under warranty so I dug around online to check prices on tranny parts and they are not that exspensive but how hard is it to rebuild the tranny in these? On mine it was just reverse that was out. I figure I would save a boatload if I did it myself.

If it's the reverse idler gear issue you are probably looking at $1000 or more in parts because it requires the motor be torn down and engine cases replaced.  I had problems with reverse going out on my 05 and the first time they rebuilt it.  The second time they put in a whole new motor.

So here are a few pictures of the damage. Looks like a manufacturing defect to me...

It is looking that way, they have not said otherwise and I would expect them to say something since I brought it in with the expectation it would be under warranty.

Well, the parts came in, 2800 bucks worth. Should have it back hopefully by the weekend... Seems like it would have been cheaper to give me a crate motor. Oh well, whatever works.
