tearing a tendon is rare, as the tendon attaches muscle to bone.  usually you tear the muscle, and, like the bicep tear, the muscle appears to slough off of the tendon and bind up in a ball.  tore a quad that way.  more rarely the tendon detaches from the bone with a bit of the bone still attached to it.  that requires surgery.  muscle tears will heal on their own, but in my opinion only, are never the same as before.

I dont know what one it was but I tore most of my tendons or legiments in my wrist playing hockey. I swore I broke it, it hurt to turn it real bad. Had to wear a wrist brace for 2-3 weeks.

I tore the tendons off the bone in my left thumb after 3 surgeries and loosing 20% of the movement in it its better now. Since there are now cables in my thumb it hurts like a mother if I hit it against some thing. But it took a good 5 or six months to fully heal. Dotor said if they could have fixed it in only 1 surgery it probably would have on been about 3-4 months but mine was pretty messed up

At home now recovering from surgery on my knee. I tore the Medial ligament from both the femur and the tib /fib (whichever the one on the bottom is)
Portions of bone were left attached to the ligament on both ends. Surgeron was able to pin them back in place. I am off of it completely for 3 weeks and then re-hab fully begins on the ACL, PCL and MCL.
My surgeon told me most likely a full year before a full recovery. Hopefully back walking on it some in the next few weeks.

About 10 yrs ago, I separated my left shoulder during a horrendous mt bike get-off during a race (and cracked a rib)...thank goodness I was wearing a helmet and the camebak w/half inflated spare tube took a lot of the blow also.  It took me 4 months before I could raise my hand above my head without wincing.  It still bothers me if I try to lift something heavy over my head...

Normally weak bicep tendons can roll or tear.  Thank goodness there are two!  Any how I work in a PT clinic.  If it is not causing pain your MD may let you do some light weight lifting like bicep curls or bench press or lat pulls.  If it is torn really bad you may require it be surgically repaired.  Some folks feel no pain with it, but then again the other half does.  Good luck and let me know if I can answer any other questions for you.

Ruptured my distal bicep tendon in june of this year, had it surgically re-attached within a week, the recovery is tricky and varies from doctor to doctor, I didnt follow their protocol, most people do.
If you google the term {distal bicep tear} you find a massive thread on topics.com about it, I got a lot of real world info from that thread and contributed my own input as well.
For what it's worth I did it lifting a tractor while facing it with an underhand grip, if I would have turned my back to it and taken an overhand grip it never would have happened, so if your ever liftin somethin really heavy, always turn your back to it.

Good luck on the recovery, go at your own pace, eat a high protein diet and get lots of rest, you wont be doing much with the arm for the first few weeks, good luck.

Depending on how well your therapist is and how hard you work at it. You can recover from your MCL tear in about 6-8 months. It all depends on you and your therapist. You should be able to walk in about 3 weeks. Just be easy and cautious.

My sales manager tore a bicep a few years ago. He said soaking in a hot tub does wonders. - I've had my wrist in a brace for almost 2 months now. Minor tug on a tire and it let out a big "pop". I gave it a week, it started feeling better, so I let it go - big mistake. About the 3rd week I had totally forgotten about it, then I hurt it bad picking something up. One x-ray and two MRI's later they're giving me a little longer in the brace to hope it heals and they don't have to cut it open.  This one runs up the back of your hand, through your wrist up by your middle finger. It tore off my wrist, but is still somewhat attached on either end. - Sucks big time, good luck!
