has anyone taken the thermometer off the regulates the flow of radiator fluid to the engine?  my bike was running really hot yesterday and shut off.  i took off the thermometer to allow the fluid to run straight to the bike.  i was just wondering if it ok to run the bike with the fluid going constantantly to the engine?

I ran it for about an hour today and it didnt overheat at all.  tomorrow i will run it a little harder just to make sure.  i was told though that come winter time it would be best to put the thermometer back in because its so cold it could crack the engine.  but i will let yall know how it works.

I would put that thermostat back in...  With it running straight through the engine & radiator like that, it'll never stay in radiator long enough to cool off (dissapate heat to the radiator fins)..  this usually causes a gradual overheat problem..

try the search, john cannon has some info on this. yes you can take it out, but you have to put some kind of washer in to replace the stat.

this is from john

Sorry guys. Ive been out of town. The rear washer that you use to replace the t-stat in the same type washer you would use on a car with an electric waterpump.

This is what it looks like
http://www.mudanddirt.com/tech/canam_2.0_parts/imagepages/image23.htm

The only thing I was told was to let the motor warm up before I nailed on the throttle.

1meanforeman what ring exactly are you talking about to put back in place?  blevinsbulldog, if i put that washer in without the tstat it should be fine to run it like that?

You will be fine without the t-stat. Just be sure the neck is sealed. Most race Can-ams do not run t-stats and now a lot of mud racers also do not run them.

John by the neck being sealed you mean the o-ring that sits in place so it doesnt leak?  Also I found some old post's you made and do I need to go and pick up that washer you were talking about?

The washer is the correct way to seal the water neck. There are many other ways it can be done. However you do it make sure it is sealed and no trash or gasket stuff is able to flow into the water

Alright I'm going to do it that way then with the washer.  Is this the correct part number 420 927 837.  I saw you posted that a while back in a previous thread.

OK forgive me as I am an auto mechanic and used to car/truck engines.

But if you remove the stat, the engine will never really reach/maintain operating temps......which is where they are supposed to run the best correct?  Or maybe they produce the least emissions....**** I cant remember!  But if this works, I may do it to my rhino.....I have the fan coming on all the time!

Where do I find the link to this mod??

Rancherrider...that is the part number.

VtecGSR95: that part number replaces the thermostat in the front cylinder with the ring that is in the rear cylinder....pretty simple. Make sure you bleed the air out of the system when you're done.

the engine temp is mostly for emissions. Usually you want to lower the temps to make more power. The problem is that when you are riding hard or in the mud those temps rise and cause your motor to lose HP. Removing the t-stat will cause the motor to run cooler decreasing the HP lose. It also will give you more time to clean your radiator. Most can-ams that have their radiator on the top could have solved their problems by removing the t-stat. Ive had mine out for over a year with zero problems.

Any time you open up a cooling system you need to get the air out. There are bleed screws on top of both "thermostat housings" for this purpose. Do the lower one first...engine running, full of coolant, rad cap off...until air bubbles stop. Then do the higher one.
