A buddy of mine just bought a new 700 grizzly.  Alot of my friends and i have grizzlys but have never rode them with stock wheels and tires.  My question is how fast should it go in low with stock tires.  He has trouble keeping up with us in low and says that he can only do about 25.  Is this normal or is somthing wrong with his.  I know that i have no problem hitting 40 in Low.   sorry for the long post .

He should be able to hit 40ish.  If the diff-lock is on, that's what's killing it.

Just talked to him and he said that in low 2wd he was able to hit 24-25 but sounded wide open.  He put it in high and didn't have a problem.   Is there anything that could cause that?  He should be getting some laws soon.  I really dont see how that would change anything but who knows.  Thanks for the reply

Either it needs some serious break-in time, or the CVT is goofed up w mud or the like.

yeah, he should be hitting 40ish no problem in low, something isn't right. i'd say since its revving high its something in the CVT, he needs to take a look there

mine is a 2008 700 and it will only do 25-30mph in low as well, my rhino would do the same, I don't think there is anything wrong, your huge tires are probably changing the ratio and allowing you to go much faster in a lower gear, kind of like making your low into a high with will really tall tires. I can do 30mph much easier when I put my 26" tires on than I can with my stocks, it races the engine at 25 with the stock tires but with the 26" tires it starts to screem a little a 30mph instead.

what kind of 26's do you have? there is so many variables that could change the ratio with tires, Did you ever see if you could do 40mph with the stock tires drew? go try it and see how that motor sounds

and just another thought they may have changed the gearing a little in the 09's??? I could almost guarantee there is nothing wrong with it. because mine won't get near 40 with out racing that engine big time and I have 1200miles on mine so far, so unless mines been messed up since day one, its fine.

"Your huge tires are probably changing the ratio and allowing you to go much faster in a lower gear"

True, ground speed will be higher, but the speedo will still read the same speed and the rev limiter will still be hit at the same tire rpm.  So that doesn't explain it.  If you're talking GPS speeds then it does partially explain it.

Something is wrong w the OP's Grizz IMO.  Probably CVT related.  Incomplete breakin wouldn't hold it back 20mph.  If it's brand new, let the dealer sort it out.  After all you paid them all that money!!!

with taller tires you are getting more speed with less revolutions out of the tires and less rpms in a way of kind of raising the gear ratio, when you raise your tire size taller you loose bottom end, do you not???
so therefore allowing more top end speed, less low end, now like I said this is just my theory, they may have changed the 09 gearing slightly everyone says they did in 09 rhino's to, so I don't know, but if it's brand new I just bet there is nothing wrong with it. Like I said mine will only do 25-30 as well with over 1200miles on mine not one issue yet, same with my rhino.

mine is an 08 as well. just bought it about 6 months ago. His best bet is taking it to the dealer. In low is he bouncing off a rev limiter of any kind? or just reving high?.... has it been in any kind of deep mud or anything? we had the same experience with a friends 660 but the only reason that happened is because he had mud packed into his CVT

We had just finished a ride and were heading back to the trucks....i wanted to try and get some of the mud off my bike and went a little fast through some water puddles on the way back followed by another buddy with the same set up as me.  When we got to the trucks he said that he couldnt keep up with us and that he had to shift to high.  and that his grizz sounded wrapped out at 25

The bike has never been sunk and the way he exsplained it.....it dosent sound like he is hitting a rev. limiter

Doesn't matter.  The machine should do it no sweat and it isn't.  So he has a mechanical problem.  No reason to question what a fella wants to do w his $8000 machine.  It's his money.  I'd be pissed if mine only hit 25mph in L.  I'd go trade up for a Recon.

Well he took it to the shop and they said it sounded like there was somthing in his clutch.  They cleaned it out and 100 dollars later it was fixed.  It now has no prob. hitting 45 in low
