I'm not sure there is a cheap way to have a good sounding system.

I used this...

...and a cheap stereo from ebay with a $10 antenna from advance mounted to the side. I mounted it to my bars and bought 2 4" speakers...I made enclosures from 4"pvc caps. It sounds great to me!
I think I spent around $125
You can see the speakers on each side of the radio.

Green-cat,
The audiopipe is awsome.
I have a radiator on my front rack so i got the split audiopipe so it would fit around it. It also saves you the work of making one. Sure it doesnt have all the base as the other homemade ones, but it sounds real good.

You don't have to run an amp, unless maybe you are running an HMF exhaust that's entirely too loud. I just like my music loud that's why I'm running a 600 watt amp. You can hear the tunes okay without an amp, I just prefer it louder.
