hey guys, i am looking at a 2007 polaris sportsman 500 x2.  whats your thoughts on this quad? how does it ride compared to a regular sportsman? is its extra length a hinderence on tight trails? what about mud? any thoughts you have about this bike is much appreciated.

I have an 06 X2 and it's great.  As far as the turning in tight spots, sometimes in can be a problem, but I just put it in Turf mode and it makes the tight turns a whole easier.....I put some 27" Swamplites on it and it is a monster.  I would highly recommend it, get it YOU won't be dissapointed.

I have an 07 500 X2 and love it.  The longer wheel base gives a better ride overall, but the rear springs are quite stiff.  In 08 they changed to a softer spring to give a better ride.  If you got it and the ride was a bit too stiff for you I'd recommend changing to the 08 springs, but you really shouldn't need to.
They should be great in mud with the longer wheel base.  I run 27 mudzillas or big horns, depending on where I'm riding.

If you're in really tight trails in the the woods you might have some issues with wheel base, but if you put it in turf mode it turns a lot easier.  I put the bodyguard fender protectors on mine so when I ride in the woods I can turn into a tree, it hits the side of my bike by the footwell and I just pivot around the tree.

Overall, it's an absolutely awesome bike, I'd buy it again with no regrets.

I have an 08 800 X2, it is one of the most versitile quads I own. I have found that I actually use my X2 more than any other quad in the stable. I think the Ts and the can-am Max's are little more comforatable for the passenger, so I would say get a T modle if you will ride double most of the time, otherwise if the need to cary a passenger is only occasional, then then the X2 is the best 2 up machine to have. I have owned a Can-am Max, the X2 turns a lot sharper than the MAX. I did a little test and my X2 can turn in the same size circle that my single seat Outlander can. I hated taking the max I had in the tight trails, the X2 has not been a problem in the tight trails for me at all. For a 2 up machine the X2 is very manuverable. The worst thing about an X2 is they are really heavy and there is not much to get a hold of on the back of them, So best not to get it stuck.

Hey Big T that spring thing you mentioned, was that for all X2s or just the 500s. Just wondering if I already have the softest springs they offer or would 08 500 springs be softer yet. Mine has got quite a bit softer after the first couple hundred miles, but softer yet would be appreciated.

The 500 and 800 use the same spring, the only difference is between 07 and 08.
If you wanted to go quite a bit softer the RZR rear springs (7043389) will fit, they're about 16% softer than the stock 08 X2 springs in the rear.  They'd definitely be softer, but they might be too soft.

The ride is better than any quad ive riddin I stay with trail tires most of the time but swap to 27 outlaws when its time to play. Added a 2" Hl lift kit( u will have to make brackets for the rear A arms ) and clutch kit. The bike is heavy......... burnt up two 2500lb winches since march. Went to the 3500 lb in may and it werks grate.

There are other lift kits for the X2 as well which don't require any other fabrication, just bolt on pretty much.
