ok, here is the deal. i have completed a big bore conversion on my 06 grizz 660. ever since, i have wore out 2 batteries, and three starter solenoids trying to crank it due to the higher compression. i finally broke down and installed a Optimia yellow top, which has been working great until i recently burned up ANOTHR freakin solenoid. Any way i can buy like a bigger solenoid, like maybe one of those ford solenoids that are mounted on the firewalls of those old trucks? anyone know of anything i can use instead? i thought of just puttin it on a toggle switch and bypassing it all together.. anyone with any suggestions would be great

Wht compression are you running ? I have a 2002 686 kit 11:1 piston. Never had any problems with starters or solinoids or batteries for that matter. Double check your timing marks and make sure cam was installed correctly. Check to make sure when you rotate fly weights on end of cam shaft that the decompression pin is moving freely into cam. Do you have any noise (like a tapping noise) coming from the top end. I think you will find out tye the decompressin release is not working correctly.
Hope that helps. Yes you could use a ford solinoid has a higher current rating than the Yamaha one but that is just putting a bandaid on a problem that needs to be fixed.
Hope that helps

I second that. also check the valve adjustment on the rocker that touches the decomp. pin.

got the ford solenoid in there, will work on the starter button now, but wont turn over a full rotation unless the spark plug is out, checked all my valves to make sure there wasnt stuck, they were all moving fine and well oiled. plenty of battery, it read 14.4 v.. what else could it be, some people have said it might be my starter, like it cant handle the load, but without a spark  plug in it  will move like a scalded dog. as far as the cam goes we checked it 3 times when putting it back in to make sure the "three dots" were aligned as per the big bore directions.

Do the flyweights for the decompression pin move freely? Whenyou move them in and out does the pin go flush in the cam ? Still think yo have a decompression release problem. Ther are actually 4 timing marks to line up. The mark in the window for the crank timing by recoil. Line uo with "I"
The 2 dots on the cam sprockets should be sitting level at the parting line where the valve cover bolts to the head. 1 to the front of engine and one to the rear. I believe there is a dot that has to go at 12 oclock on the plate for the decompression fly weights as well. This is the one that if it is sitting at 6 oclock the decompressin pin will be out all the time hloding the valee open. Bike will run like this but loss of power and makes a loud valve ticking noise.

Do not use a toggle switch in place of the solenoid.  The starter draws a good amount of amps, and I don't think a normal toggle switch would hold up to it without starting an electrical fire.
