it will if it is just the rings that are worn out. if it is a valve seat, a BBK wont help you with the smoking. but it would help you get more power.

it is the seal that keeps oil from getting on the top of the piston.

If the smoking is from the rings, the big bore kit replaces the cylinder liner, the piston, and rings with new.

Since you will have the head off anyway, it would make sense to have a machine shop measure the valve to valve guide clearance, and to replace the valve seals.  That could be your other source of smoke.

If your bike is smoking from water damage, it's going to be the rings on the piston.  This will also have messed up your cylinder wall.  To fix the problem, you have to have your cylinder slightly bored and re-honed to smooth it out and get a slightly larger piston with new rings.  A big bore kit is just boring it out more than is necessary to make it work again.  This just gives you a larger piston, which creates more power.  If you have the money, you might as well get a big bore kit since you have to have the cylinder bored anyway.

Have a machine/engine shop measure the valve stems & valve guides .. Don't have your dealer or ATV shop check them because they won't have as good equipment for measuring  ..

Don't forget to REPLACE the oil cooler if it had mud/water somewhere inside the motor, you cannot ever get it clean and isn't worth the risk.
