i snorkeled out my outty this weekend and went riding yesterday and it got a little bit of water in it and after reading some posts ive come to the conclusion that its leaking aroung the belt housing. how hard is to take off the cover and silicone around it?

The easiest thing to do is upgrade the rear cover and you won't have problems.

being that yours is the 06 madel yours may leak around the rear housing where it meets the motor. but it may not also. it is really simple to seal between the covers. just undo all the clutch cover bolts. put a bead of silicone around the stock gasket and reinstall be sure not to tighten the outside cover bolts to tight or they will strip the inner cover nuts loose. tighten them til they stop then torque just a touch more all the way around.

It is a can am service bulletin, that may be covered under warranty. the easiest way to check the belt housing for leaks is to fill it up with clean water and find out where you are getting water leaking out. Then seal it up in that area. but I reccomend the upgraded backing plate. The original ones have a history of warping.

no you dont have to remove the floorboard but it will give you a lil more room if you do.

what he said

It will make getting to the bottom bolts a little easier if you take them off but it isnt a must

In some cases the outer housing has been known to warp due to the heat from the exhaust.

The dealer will have or order the upgraded housing and tools can be bought on line or from the dealer.

some people who have had their dealers update the backside of the CVT cover still get water in through it.  i trust sealing it up myself or making sure the dealer seals it when they install the new one.

Just don't use too much or it will push your gasket out and let the water back in...LOL

or maybe the gasket got caught on something when some half tard was installing it way past his bedtime...   i don't see how to sealant would push the gasket out, so i'm more inclined to believe that when i was aligning the cover i may have bumped it out of place.
