Hey guys what is the difference between a 300 mag Weatherby vs a 300 mag Winchester?  Thanks for all input.

A couple hundred feet per second in average factory ammo. Less if you handload.

And 10-20 bucks a box at the store...

Both are fantastic big game calibres. Usually easier to get Win Mag ammo at small places.

In the field there isn't much in the way of a difference as far as hunting capability is concerned. A little less wind drift on the Wby due to velocity but most of us can not shoot well enough to notice.

Biggest deciding factor should be what is available in the rifle that you feel most comfortable with.

Cool factor has to go with the Wby though .

I sure appreciate your input steve07.  It will be interesting to see if anyone else has something to say.

Other than velocity and ft lbs of energy what would you like to know?

the .300 weatherby is true to roy weatherby's design of the double radius shoulder which by right's makes extra case capacity available thus explaining the slightly higher velocities compared to the classic .300 winchester.

the .300 win. is designed off the .338 win with the shoulder moved forward. this results in the neck being slightly short which can be an issue if handloading long cartridges.

the .300 weatherby is nothing more than an improved .300 h&h magnum incorporating weatherby's shoulder design.

both are belted magnums which is my only complaint about either. if have owned and handloaded for the .300 win of over a decade and found it to be an exceptional hunting cartridge.

you would be happy with either, but the winchester will be cheaper to shoot.

Muddyfuzzy is correct.
The Weatherby is faster by a bit.  The ammo for the Weatherby is also more challenging to find when you run out and much more expensive.
I love my .300 Winchester Mag.  Great rifle for anything in N America.
