was working on the wife's sportsman 500 it is a 97 model. no back brakes. got to looking at the rear rotor, it has some sloppy play in it. I heard it rattling like a u joint this past weekend. Is there some kind of spacer that goes on this to take up the wobble. I know it hard to understand this by reading. Any ideas thanks

there is no spacer, those models were always noisy, if u pull the rotor off and put some silicone on the splines it will quiet it down some

i understand, let me try and explain, there are about 12 to 15 bolts on the back of the rotor. these hold the rotor to a disk that has grooves that fit over the shaft that comes out of the tranny. the rotor has all kinds of play in it where the 12 or 15 bolts hold it on the the disk. was wondering if there was any kind of maybe rubber spacer that may go between the rotor and the disk. this is my first time to have the brakes rotor of the pop so i do not know realy what i am looking for. thanks for the info

it is a floating rotor, which means that the rotor is allowed to move on the mount from side to side not up and down.  if it moves up and down then the shouldered bolts are worn out or the rotor holes are worn.

OK liberty, thanks. it does not move up and down, just side to side about 1/8 to a 1/4 of a inch or so. How far does this get driven back on to the input shaft from the tranny? if you got got far the the bolts holding the rotor onto the dick will rubb and hit the tranny case.
