Rode this weekend with 2 Grizz 700s, 1 sp 500 ho, and a 750 Brute.  All kinds of terrain and miles of flat wide dirt roads where we could really open up.  My 800 ran well, definitely faster than the Grizzlys and a little faster than the Kawi.  During 1 high speed blast the 500 h.o. absolutely shredded it's belt and was done for the day.  Not long after I felt what I'm assuming was a belt slip.  I was coming out of a turn doing about 50 and I pinned it up a long smooth slight uphill.  It was pulling strong and then at about 60+ the revs jumped and it stopped accelerating.  I let off immediately and feathered it a few times to see if I had anything and it seemed fine.  I took it real easy for a while and everything seemed okay so I nailed a few times with no problem but I never held it open for long.  Earlier in the day I was up to 70 (speedo) with no issues. This is my first belt quad and I can only assume it was belt or clutch related.  I haven't had time to look at the belt yet to see if it's glazed or anything.  Should I just bring it back to dealer and let them deal with it under warranty?

Id be very surprised if your belt slipped in that situation.  I'd bring it back under warranty and see what they say.
What year is it?  your sig says an 08 800, but you said u were on a 500.

I was on my 08 800, the 500 was one of the bikes I was riding with.

It could have been a heat issue.

Heat or maybe a splash of water got in there and then dried up.

Check your motor mounts, if they are broke or cracked the motor and tranny will come out of alignment under hard power, therefore bringing your clutches out of alignment

Yeah and whats good about the new 850 and 550 is that the motor and tranny are one piece so that cant happen.

As quick as the revs jumped it was like if I pulled in the clutch on a bike.  I had plenty of traction, it was a tight dirt road, and smooth so it's not like I was catching any air either. I wasn't in much water that day and it had been at least an hour since seeing any so I don't think it was water. When I get home I'll check the motor mounts, but I would think if I had a bad mount it would show up constantly and more so out of the hole.  My dealer can't guarantee they'll get to it before I leave for deer camp so I'm gonna inspect it tonite, pull the cover and look at the belt and clutches and if it looks good I'll take my chances bringing it to camp.  I do appreciate the feedback.

I pulled the belt cover off tonight and water was definitely splashing around in there but it doesn't look like much got in.  How it got in is the annoying part.  The foam gasket that goes around the perimeter of the housing was out of it's channel on the front side and just kinked over on the inside of the housing.  You could clearly see where the water had got in because of the run marks through the dirt and dust on the inside of the housing.  Everything looked good so I blew out all the dust, cleaned it up and put the gasket where it belongs.  Now out of curiosity I checked the airbox and found the same situation, the gasket wasn't in correctly and I could clearly see where water and dirt had made a path in along the side of the cover.   Also since I had some of the plastic off I did the break in oil change and studied the machine some more and found just about every zip tie either had been cut on an angle leaving a razor sharp edge or it looked like the excess was chewed off instead of cut.  Not to get anyone worked up but, while this bike runs strong and has some nice features, the build quality so far is lacking.

Its best just to silicone your belt cover when you put it back on, works better than just that gasket. Same on the airbox if you plan on submerging it that far, if its not going under water the stock gasket will work fine

I would have to disagree on siliconing anything that you may need to take off while out on the trail. I have never had issues with mine and I don't use silicone.

I use grease or Black RTV both are easy to remove when needed.
