Im in the market to buy my first utility. I want efi and  a big bore. I dont have a lot of $ so Im looking for older models and have found a few polaris 800's and kingquads I can afford. I dont mud bog and want a good ride with a lot of power if needed as Ive always rode on very powerful racing bikes. Need your guys unbiased opinions on power, ride, reliability, aftermarket upgrades, Im not afraid of modifying them.

They are both great machines. I dont know much about the 800s but the ones ive been around are kinda slow. I love the ride of my KQ700 and as far as modding the KQ it is real easy and cheap to modify, for about $100 you can make the KQ have lots of low end grunt and keep the same top speed. The KQs have been pretty reliable as long as you take care of them but that pretty much goes with all wheelers. There are lots of aftermarket parts for both of them out there. I would say ride both of them and make your decision from there.

I'll agree with Brad, except for the part about the 800 being slow!  I've ridden with a few 800s & they weren't slow, I'll say like most anything else with some key mods they come alive!  You also have to consider the weight of this machine! This is where they get the Cadillac ride from!!
Now for the King, the 700s have been around now for several years & are IMO a perty proven machine. With the key mods, it'll be like a completely different machine!  I'd also have to recommend it for the reliability! IMO anything out can be made to be a great bike, that's really the fun in it, making it your own!! The Kings ride really good also, but are lacking bout 150 lbs, so it may feel a lil faster!  Try to get in a lil ride on both to see which 1 fits you & your riding style best! The King (IMO) would do you better, being that it's lighter weight it wheelies & jumps better!  Hope this helps, as I've been as informative as possible. Good luck & later                       Brandon
