well my bike has melted it's second set of plastics.first time was the front cab and the side panel and now it has melted the rear cab,seat and the side panel.also the front has a bubble in it from the the heat.i installed the 800 header with the new 1 piece heat shield to help protct it from melting but it has done it again.oh and the first time it done it was still under warranty and the dealer said it wasn't covered so i footed the bill so i could get my bike back going.they are the ones that said to go with the 800 header so it wouldn't happen again well guess what it did.now the bike is out of warranty and looks like i am stuck again,i could Polaris's cusomer support line and they said that thier's no such problem with the plastic's melting and that there is no service bullitons on them either.this is bunch of B.S.,Polaris is very aware of the problem an they need to do something about it.they also told me that my dealer nver contacted them about my plastics the first time,idk if thats true or not.guess they didn't want to get the warranty pay because it's less than what they normally charge the customer.i just needed to let of a little steam about the issue and wonder if anybdy else is have the same problems?

I have a friend that had that same issue...he ended up getting the pipes ceramic coated and that ended that problem. Now he can't ride worth a darn...but at least his bike is not melting around him. I hope that the coating helps.

Mine did it back at the beginning of the year, extended warranty paid for the front cab and side panel and a full heat shield, but wouldn't cover the labor! ****, but whatever it's back together and i can tell where it's trying to melt again, and that full shield is loud as ****! so guess i'll prolly buy some true duals and get the head pipes ceramic coated.

my first ones melted. replaced them under warranty. the second set has melted also. but i had the head pipe ceramic coated and i'm going to get new plastics. the coating definitely helped

my bike did the same and so did my girlfriends, dealer replaced my girlfriends under warranty but they kept it fot almost 2 months and I just never took mine in for them to do it because I didnt want to leave it their forever

getting the ecu reflashed on the older ones will help lower the exhaust temp some

Are all of you guys running aftermarket pipes?? Mine is stock and have seen no signs of melting plastic. Do I need to worry about mine melting with a stock setup??

Go to an auto parts store and buy some header wrap. Its not the cheapest stuff in the world but it works. Just wrap it around the pipe and you dont have to worry about it melting anymore.

it should be covered under warranty!! you just have a bad dealer!!! also there is a service bulletin for heat tape to be applied to the plastics which helps alot!!

Mine is at the dealer right now with the exhaust/plastic melting issue. It's an 06 Sportsman 700. The dealer brought up my machine and there was a bullitan on it. I have the papers on the bullitan; it says that the 05-07 Polaris Sportsman 400-800 may have this issue. My dealer is putting a new designed heat shield on my machine and sending pics of plastic to Polaris to get them to replace it. My bike has been out of warranty almost a year and he told me that was not a problem cause it was a recall. The new Exhaust heat shield PN is 2876773. Hope this info helps you. If anyone has anymore questions that i can help with or more info on this feel free to PM me.

Just got my 07 800 back out of the shop...after nearly two months. They replaced the front cab, added the heat shield kit, and reprogrammed the ecu. The heat shield kit must be in high demand since that is what took so long. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

The 06 Can-Am OL 800's ran pretty warm. Up here, I only saw a few melt the seat or plastic.... Can-Am remapped the ECM's for 07 and added a service bulltien to remap the 06 models..... Must have worked cause U don't see any issues on here or any other forums now... I would say the ECM reflash would be yer best bet. If U live in a really hot area, then get the headers and exhaust ceramic coated and replace the factory coolant with www.liquidperformance.com . Works great for mud riding and has anti-freeze properties down to -35 celcius. ( get the racing coolant )

I posted earlier in this thread about my side panel melting. I got to do something, my seat is starting not to fit right. When I set on the seat there is a inch or so space between it & the tank & all kind of heat is coming up right on the boys.

Not a bad suggestion, but save the $50 or so you'll spend on the wrap, bands, and high-temp paint. I had mine wrapped all the way and it lasted just a few rides before it started to break down from the mud and water.

Hey guys, I was able to speak to a Polaris guy a few wks back and asked him about my cab melting for the third time. He told me that Polaris had a heat shield that mounted to the frame that helps a lot (just make sure the wings are riveted tight and it does not touch the pipe or it may rattle), he said that it will help alot of the problems. He told me about a new Calibration they had that lowers the temperatures in the exhaust and that between the two of them it will fix most all the bikes if they do not have any other problems and every thing is operating in normal ranges of the fuel system and the ignition system. There are a few bikes that will have to have the EFi system looked at much closer to be sure all the sensors are set right or are operating within their normal ranges and that they may not throw a code. The one he told me to look for is the TPS, it is possible that through use and what not, that it might move slightly and cause it to run rich or lean. a little Rich no problem just makes a bit more power, to Rich and it will foul plugs. However, if it is lean it will cause the exhaust temps to climb and the new calibration and shield are not enough. The TPS must then be reset to the correct setting.

Well, I went and had all this done and looked at and I'll be damed It Worked they found my TPS was out of adjustment by a long ways (It runs better now as well). And I don't hardly feel anything in the way of heat at all and this was after working my food plots for a half hour. My Dealer said that Polaris sent a note out to all Dealers to let them know what to do if a customer has problems. I would check with you dealer. Hope this helps, it sure helped me and my 700.
