I posted a few pictures from the 2009 model year event that I went to.  Had plenty of seat time so if there are questions fire away!  Not all of my photos are posted as they were for a magazine photo shoot.

http://www.ansley.net/pictures.php?year=2008&thumbride=102#ride102

More of my photos can be seen on the Side X Side Action website.

A bit dissappointing that the air and cvt intakes are only seat high.  I was hoping they'd get routed up where the old fuel tank is (similar to my Grizz).   Also dissappointing that there's not some sort of front storage compartment without purchasing an accessory: those things are great on the classic series.

I guess I'd just like your overall riding impressions and comparisons to the current top offerings out there (Grizzly 700, Outlander 800, Sportsman 800).

It is an inline twin firing at 270 degrees so it is no longer alternating like it did.

Yes the air intakes were a big let down for me.

The power was great.  As far as comparing, well...thats entirely opinion.  I cant stand Grizzlies (yes I owned one).  No real comparison there in my opinion.  The Outlander to me is more of a trail oriented quad and just not my cup of tea.

Everyone is gonna snorkle it so the stock intke height doesnt matter

And the front storage box on the old style always got mud and water in them.....This one has storage in the rear..Who knows if it is gonan keep dry though.

Now that i see some worth a crap pictures i think it looks good...Needs some 29.5's and a snorkle with a 6in lift

Not everyone is going to snorkel.  The old ones were high enough that you didnt have to snorkel it unless you were going to get real deep.  I have my 800 unsnorkeled and go deep enough.  The 850 will not go as deep.

The rear storage box is about the same as the old ones...it will get wet.

Thanks for the reply.  I'll probably get flamed for this, but did you get a top speed?  Also, how did acceleration feel?  Did you ride the power steering model?

Nice pics. Thanks. Clears up a lot of the questions here, but I thought it was an alternate firing engine like a V-twin.

No top speed tests nor would I have a desire to get there.  Acceleration was noticably faster than the 800.  Yes I rode power steering model.  It was mind blowing how easy it steered.

It is alternate firing at 270 degrees like a v-twin would do.  It is not a 180 degree as it used to be.

Nice pics! I've owned nothing but Polaris (since 1993) until I got this Brute and KQ. I've always been kinda partial to POPO's but man those '09s are FUGLY. It seems like ARCTIC CAT, and Can-Am are the companys that are listening to what customers want (like the mud pro and ever increasing power of the Can-AM). Wish other bike builders would follow. Nice photos though. Just not my style in the looks department

Thanks for the pics, that answered a lot of questions on the exhasut, it might not be as bad as I thought to do some sort of custom duals.

Maybe just straight pipe with a pair of these. LOL From the looks of pic # 1245, that would not be all that hard to do. Might sound pretty cool with the new firing sequence.

Did anone at the ride and drive ask if 12" rims would still fit on the machine.

Also there is a pic of a different wheel laying in the grass. What was that pic of, is that on optional rim for the quads.

I UNDERSTAND THAT A PARRALEL FIRING ENGINE MEANS BOTH PISTONS TRAVEL UP AND DOWN TO TOP DEAD CENTER AND BOTTOM DEAD CENTER AT THE SAME TIME LIKE THE SPORTSMAN 700 AND 800 ENGINE. EACH CYLINDER FIRES ON ALTERNATING STROKES. THE NEW ENGINE IS DEFINATLY A 270 DEGREE INLINE ENGINE. THE ENGINE HAS TWO COUNTERBALANCE SHAFTS GEAR DRIVEN OFF THE CRANKSHAFT. POLARIS SAID THIS 270 DEGREE DESIGN WAS BUILT BECAUSE ITS SUCH A SMOOTH RUNNING ENGINE WITH VERY LITTLE VIBRATION. THE CYLINDERS ARE ONE PIECE WITH THE TOP HALF OF THE CRANKCASE. THE CYLINDER WALLS ARE PLATED. 4 VALVES PER CYLINDER SINGLE OVERHEAD CAM. HUGE STATOR AND FLYWHEEL PRODUCES ALOT OF POWER. SOME ONE ALSO ASKED ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION TOURQUE COMPENSATOR. THIS WAS ADDED TO KEEP TRANSMISSIONS GEARS, TRANSMISSION CHAINS, AND AXLES FROM BREAKING UNDER SUDDEN IMPACT. (ATV WHEELS COME OFF GROUND RUNNING AT LOW GROUND SPEED, ATV HITS GROUND WITH WHEEL SPEED OF 70 MPH). ANOTHER DEVICE WAS ADDED TO TRANSMISSION TO AID IN SMOOTH GEAR LEVER SHIFTING, LIKE WHEN ATV IS HARD TO SHIFT FROM PARK INTO GEAR WHILE PARKED ON A STEEP INCLINE. POLARIS DIDNT MISS ALOT OF ANYTHING WHEN DESIGNING THIS ATV.

the belt is located on the backside of the motor...since this motor is now sideways installed in the bike the cvt cover is now located where a normal engine's rear drive shaft would come out...looks like changing belts would be quite tedious

THE DRIVEN CLUTCH IS MOUNTED ABOVE THE DRIVE CLUTCH BEHIND THE TRANSMISSION. THE ENGINE IS MOUNTED IN THE FRAME, THEN THE TRANSMISSION HOUSING BOLTS DIRECTLY TO THE ENGINE. BOTH THE CLUTCHES ARE MOUNTED ON THE TRANSMISSION INPUT AND OUTPUT SHAFTS. THE CLUTCHES ARE VERY CLOSE TOGETHER. BELT IS VERY SHORT. I HAVE SOME CUT AWAY PICTURES OF THE SYSTEM FROM THE DEALER SHOW.

I read somewhere that low gear wasn't as low providing more top speed in low range...how did it feel? Does the extra horsepower make up for the difference? Does it have the torque that we are all looking for?
