When I pin the throttle from the beginning it stutters/hesitates for a couple seconds then goes like a rocket. If i apply the throttle under normal use it's fine. I heard from a buddy that it's prob the clutch, is this right? I thought maybe the carbs need work/adjusted. Any help would be great! Thanks

idle mixture screws I had the same problem adjust them when the machine is warm it will take a while as they are a pain doing 2 carbs start with the back one then do the front from what I understand the back carb is going to need more fuel because it runs hotter

I agree with adjusting the idle screw mixture. If they are out of whack the throttle response is crap.

the air/fuel mixture screws are located on the right side of the bike look above the belt cover at the carbs you'll see a brass flat head screw theres one on each carb they are easy to get to.  I would first try richening them to see if it runs better to richen the mixture turn them both a alittle under a quarter of a turn counterclockwise.  always move them is small movements and turn them the same amount.  if it gets worse then try leaning it by turning them clockwise.  when you make the adjustments you'll need to run it for a little bit to notice any differences.

It's probably the say the carb needs some adjustment as well but i'd put some new plugs in it before i adjusted the carb to eliminate that possibility.Keep track of where your stock air fuel settings are in case it's not the carb or plugs. It could be the valves out of spec and it would be handy to know the stock carb setting after the valves are properly adjusted.Good luck

My 07 SRA 650 has the adjustment screws capped. Is it a big deal to drill them? Can I just get a long bit on a cordless and drill them out? Thanks

UPDATE: I did tool with the adjusting screws on the carb (but not much) and it made a little difference but the hesitation is still very much there. Should I adjust them another way, try something else or send it in to the shop? Would a jet kit fix it? Just a NOTE when it is under load i need to move the choke a bit for maximum power. Dunno... Thanks

Sounds like your running pretty lean if you have to choke it to make power. It isn't getting enough fuel. You may not have adjusted the a/f enough.

if its running better when you choke it then you need to richen the needles try a quarter turn counter clockwise on both air/fuel mixture screws

9-1-08 UPDATE*  Ok I did mess with them, I had them all the way in (clockwise) and then adjust them out (counter) I dont think i had them 3.5 turns but they were out enough to make it stall and idle low. So I turn them back in a bit and and it responds alot better but still hesitates when pinning the throttle. Any other ideas? Should I just turn them counter clock wise until the idle gets pretty low then just turn the idle screw up and try it? I didn't get that far cause we were riding theat afternoon. Thanks for anymore info.

If you flip your seat over it has the air/fuel mixture ratio on a sticker.  Mine says 2 1/4 turns out both front and back.  If you still have a problem after that take your stock cdi and put it back in to rule out your Moose power module.  Also how long have you been running the twin air filter and power module?  When I put in my dynatek the directions said I might need a jet kit.
