Ok so i installed my hmf pipe, air filter, and pc3 on my 420 and now my over heating light seems to be coming on alot. I haven't had a chance to look at my rad if its dirty or nething so it could be a coincidence but does anyone know why this might be the case? wrong fuel map maybe?

my 420 use to overheat also. i finally took the rad shrouds off one day and it was full of mud. its hard to wash it all with the shrouds so i just leave mine off so i can stick a waterhose on the radiator.

Yea mine gets covered in mud too I think I'm going to put mine on the front rack so I can keep it cleaner and maybe get a better fan for it too.

Alrite thanks for the help...I'll take a good look at it tommorow....I think its been a combination of the think mud and dusty roads the last few times i've gone riding... I'll give it a good cleaning and an oil change and see what happens

Just one more question...is it possible that my new exhaust and current fuel map are also causing it to overheat. Still haven't looked at the rad but im sure it would be clogged because of the riding conditions lately. Just wanted to make sure thhis is all and my fuel map/exhaust isn't contributing to the problem

i removed all the covers by my radiator so i could clean it, just looking at it doesnt really mean that its clean. after i removed all my covers and cleaned it i couldnt believe how much mud was coming out of it. give it try and see what happens.

Ok I washed my 4wheeling and hosed out my rad as best I could without removing any covers. I didn't have too much time today so im gonna see how that does and if nothing i'll give the rad a more thorough cleaning and take off the covers. Wish I had more time to do this now but hopefully this will help. There was a ton of mud coming out of it still. Thanks for the help guys i'll probably post again if the problem continues

I can't guarantee that it is the problem, but if the radiator is partly clean, like as clean as you could keep it without removing anything, then it might keep a bone stock engine cool under light to normal operation.  If you add horsepower in any way, figure your fuel is going through at about 30 percent efficiency, so seventy percent of the fuel that used to be used went out as heat, and that was working at least adequately if not well.  Now seventy percent of the current, larger amount of fuel being used is going out as heat.  The difference in radiator expectations is just as large as the difference in horsepower production.  So you've just put a larger load on the radiator.  If it was borderline but OK before, it could be woefully inadequate right now.

Personally, I'd start there.  Making preperations and possibly a PVC sprayer for your garden hose may or may not solve the problem, but also would be a prudent step, as this will become a (slightly to somewhat) more frequent maintenance item.

yea....I live in sault canada sooo unfortunately stuff like this isn't as available as I wish it was. I'm gonna look around and theres always ebay and the net so i'll see what I can do. So to use this i would have to flush my system now and premix the 50/50 coolant with this engine ice and put it in????

I've spoked about magic shmutz for the radiator before many times, if anybody want's the long version it a couple of them are pretty recent, should be easy to find.

DO NOT put magic shmutz into the radiator until you isolate, identify, and FIX THE PROBLEM you are having with the cooling system.  The cooling system not inadequate, something is wrong with it.  I've tossed out a guess as to what is wrong, and I could be incorrect, but something IS wrong with the cooling system, that's not a guess, there IS a failure somewhere.  The cooling system is not inadequate for the amount of engine you have.  That being the said, the magic shmutz may not help, or worse, it may fool you into thinking you're ok until you're a bunch further out than you'd have otherwise been.

I just bought "Engine Ice" for mine and put it in and it def helped mine.  When I added my pipe and stuff to mine it made mine run hotter because of the increased horsepower etc..
Also you have to be careful because if it is running lean then it will make it run much hotter too.. which also can cause more problems.
If you get Engine Ice you have to completely flush your system and then replace with the premix..  It claims to run as much as 50% cooler and so far so good on mine.

but again they are right it doesn't take much mud on the radiator to severely limit cooling so your best bet is to try and hit water often to try and clean it out.

Good luck
