im ridding on 27in mudlites  they r getting old and worn they have lasted 2 years and been great, i want to stay with 27s but not sure what to go with next or do i stay with them and buy new ones when i buy rims?  i ride alot on asphalt and a lot of trails and some mud  i would love laws but i do more round the house and just riding than pure mud, what other tires r good   i dont like the horns or swamplites

If the mud lites perform well for you, I think you need check out the Kenda Bear Claws. They are cheap, perform very close to the mud lites, but they will last at least twice as long. I've gotten 8 years out of a set before I replaced them, and it wasn't due to wear, just ready for something new. Some tires are better than others, but I have yet to find a tire that holds up as well as the Bear Claws. Only problem is that they measure about an inch short, but considering what you are getting it is well worth it. As said, they will be very close in performance to the mud lites, so if you were satisfied with them, the Bear Claws should be perfect.

ya i would say mst's too. I have read alot about them lately and sounds like it will fit your riding style really well. They are definately going to be my next tire when my lites are worn out.

mst s  or zillias  do both measure true? how do they wear?    and also i have considered the claws   a guy i ride with has  them and he loves them.  what rims to get to go with them the irs offset is the only reason i want rims i have spacers now but them r cheap and the front right has already had one break

MST's outlast Zillas from what I hear, but neither come even close to the wear the bear claws provide. I've tried several different tires, always end up with the bear claws again. I'm on my 3rd set of bear claws, haven't worn one out yet.

Def. sounds like you need some bear claws. As stated above, they are a great tire.

The claws are comparable in the mud to the Mudlites but are a little heavier.

I ran wides all around, they floated well on my rancher. They are great in light mud. Once the mud gets thick, they clog. Although water on the top, this hole (creek) was pure mud. One thing: as bad as they were slicked over, I got it out with its own power. Sling em good enough, and it pulled out.

You would definately be a good candidate for some decent moderate mud tires with good trail manners that wear well on pavement. I suggest checking out the following pretty much in order of recommendation:

MST
BearClaw
Zilla
Swampwitch
Dirt-Devil XT
XTR's
MudWolf
MudBug/Gator (perhaps a bit too agressive for your riding but wear well and only slight vib till10k's)
SwampFox Plus

If you aren't very conserned about your mud performance check out Terra Cross's

Dirt Devils are a good tire as well. There is a guy at the camp that has about 3000 miles on his and still has half tread but the lugs are starting to peel off.

My uncle had the XTR's and I never actually put a tape on them but they were as tall as my dads swampwitches and they run within about 1/2".

MST's > XTR's. MST's are excellent tires, only reason I said bear claws is because you will get twice the life out of them, especially on asphalt, they are cheaper, and will take you MOST places the MST's will. The MST's are a better mudder, you have to sacrifice something. The MST's will be a nice step up from the Mud lites, you shouldn't be disappointed.

Not sure of the weight, but tread depth is 1 inch I believe, correct me if I'm wrong. 589's are better mudders than the lites, but the lites are much smoother. The 589s are rough under 10mph, and seem to wander at high speeds (40+). However, they do wear well. Tradeoff, they probably will outlast MST's, but you will be giving up comfort and not gaining much if any mud performance. The 589's have NO sidelug, which hurts. If you're gonna consider 589's, throw Kenda Executioners into the mix. MST's are the best overall combo, they provide great traction AND ride whereas many other tires do one or the other.

If mud is an important part of the equation then move the bugs further up your list. They clean out great, wear well, are light and relatively inexpensive. If mud is REALLY important then look at bi-tri claw combo (great trail manners for a pure mud tire) or vampires. It depends on how much of your pavement/trail/wear you are willing to give up for the mud performance.

XTR's do measure true but do not clean out well in thick mud. That said, they are still an excellent all around tire.

I agree with the others that if you look at 589's you should also look at Executioners. I just love the idea of a guy doing a lot of pavement running either of those but it's your choice.

When I read all of your posts I still come back to MST's or for the budget conscious Swamp Witch if you don't mind giving up a little.
