ok i just got done talkin to the mechanics and they said that my motor is pretty much shot i mean me personally i think its either the timin chain or my valves but i dont kno they do it for a living i dont so im goin off of wut they say. i really only sank it once but ne ways there sayin that i possibly wore out my wrist pin, bent my rod, my bearings are shot and my pistons slappin. but yet it still runs pretty good so i dont kno. but ne ways there tellin me that imma need a new whole motor rebuild and i cant possibly hurt it any more than i already have and they told me i can go ahead and ride it this weekend and just rebuild it when i get back cuz i cant possibly mess it up ne more. but i dont know much about the whole motor and all apperiantly they do. wut do yall think?

another thing i wanna check the valves just to make sure that its not that so i can eliminate that but how do i go about doin that and wut are the specs on the valve adjustment.

also how much does it cost for a new motor versus rebuildin the motor and wut would be a better route. and where can i buy a new motor. this is all on the bike thats in my sig

http://www.highlifter.com/forum/Valve_adjustment_procedures_for_all_Honda_ATV%27s/m_2523351/tm.htm

was the motor tore apart and checked out? I have a buddy with a 06 that has been sunk numerous times and rode with milky oil, it rattles and knocks and has for the past 2 years and yet doesn't burn oil and no loss of power. I know his valves are rattling and his 1-way bearing (clutch side) is shot and yet he keeps abusing it, wants to see how long it will run (he's a popo owner that bought a honda to ride with the rest of us)

yea im thinkin about either rebuildin the whole motor or just puttin a new motor in it but im ridin it this weekend. also is there any possible way a 4wheeler can sling a rod. like sling it out the side of the motor. i heard somethin like that before but i dont kno if its true or not

put a big bore kit w/a new crank and a mudbuster cam. you can probaly get all from big kelly raceing.com or bike bandit.com. it will probally be cheaper than a new motor but a lil more than a rebuild. as far as the valevs there should be two small covers under the tank where you can check them, you can find a manual here

manuals    .dqt.be/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=36

the manual is for a rubicon but is should not matter, neither should the year.

x2 run it till the crank falls out the bottom, if you run with water in it you most likely have all the problems your mech listed, its gonna cost the same to do a total rebuild if you bring it in running or locked up... round about anyway

I have seen a 400 and a 450 throw a rod but they both had no rattles or knocks when they did it. (these were farmers machines and have never been mudded just used for work). If it does throw a rod the motor will be no good and not rebuild-able!

i doubt u will throw a rod.. Umm as for the rebuild.. i would defently rebuild it instead of buyin a new one.. u can get ur crank rebuilt for like 100 bucks.. piston like 50.. rings.. 20.. bored.. 50.. and then the labor.. if u can do it urself ur only lookin at prolly.. 300 bucks.. but if u cant do it urself.. ur lookin at like.. 1200

ok thanks but if my rod is already bent which i think it is, how much longer i got till it breaks if i ride it.

and say i do throw a rod cuz i have bad luck, but say i do will it come out the bottom of the case or the side of the case

i seriouly doubt u have a BENT rod.. now.. u might have bad bearings.. but i doubt u bent the rod.. could be.. bearings.. wrist pin will also make LOTS of racket.. Umm u cant really be SURE where its gonna come.. but it would be my guess outta the bottom. since its got to go threw 2 cases to come out the side..a nd only 1 out the bottom..

yea i mean im not really sure exactly whats wrong with it. but when i took it to the mechanics all they did was listen to it and they said my pistons possibly slappin my wrist pins worn and possibly a bent rod and they said my bearings are just about shot. its makin a good bit of rattling and it gets louder as i rev it up

yeh i mean.. anything gonna get louder when u rev it.. so thats not the big deal. Id say it was ur crank.. can u do the work urself? do u have any mechanical mind?

its real simple to tell if its ur crank.. all u gotta do is take the cylinder off and then feel the play in the Rod.. its going to have a SLIGHT movement side to side.. (not much) and if it moves ANY up and down it needs to be replaced.. Umm ill have to look at the book to see how much it is side to side. but like i said.. its just should BARLYT move side to side.. its really simple to check for it.. hardest thing about that is takin the fenders and racks off..

Hmmm.. havent seen it happen.. but i wouldnt put it apast it.. cause a warn wrist pin makes the piston go at more of a angle.. and if it was to get in a bind and the rod was still pushing up.. 1 or the 2 gotta give.. the rod.. or the cylinder wall.. and most likly the rod will give WAY before the cylinder wall.

i would DEFENTLY take it somewhere else and see what they say.. there is NO wya i would pay anyone 2 grand to do ANYTHIGN to a 4 wheeler.. What i would do if i was you.. they make manuals and the tell u step by step.. how to take it apart and how to do it all.. i would buy one of them and try it my self before i paid that much.. Im puttin a crank in a 02 660 grizz right now.. and im charging him 500 + parts.. which parts gonna be about.. 250-300... so thats 800-1000 at the most..
