Mine has sort of a light knock in that area, I investigated it and have chalked it up to normal cylinder firing noise. Obviously when the cylinder fires it is an explosion, that is the noise I am hearing I believe. I'm not sure why it is so much more pronounced on the 800 than on other machines I have ridden/heard. Sounds kind of like a diesel lol. Not sure if this is what you might be hearing? Other than that, the battery hold down, heat shields(usually a lighter "tingy" sound),exhaust in the rear, and loose winch fair lead rollers(which BTW gave me a fit finding because the sound apeared to be coming from the engine, weird how sounds can be thrown. You will see them spinning from vibration and the rattle is loud!) are common sources of rattles. A piece of broom stick cut off can help isolate where a noise is coming from. One end touching the suspected area, the other to your ear. Screw driver can work also.
