Got alot of mud and water in my CVT this weekend. Drained it all out but still worries me, plus losing power in water because of belt slipping sucks.
So I finally decided to bite the bullet and snorkel the transmission on my Kodiak. I have noticed a few posts on grizzlys but could not find a good one on kodiaks. I would like to run Marine hose or radiator hose to the plastic, then top it with PVC. Eventually want to snorkel Airbox out the front also, but right now just the Trans. Any help is appreciated and all comments welcome.

Need to know what all components I need, How much hose/pipe, etc..
If anyone has pics that would be a plus.

running the snorkels is somewhat time consuming, but it is well worth it in the end.  i used 1.5 inch flex spa hose from lowes and of course used pvc pipe.  go get a good assortment of fittings and keep your receipt that way you can return the ones you dont need.  route everything the way you want to, but DONT glue it.  make shure everything fits the way you want it to, then go back and glue all the fittings.  I used pvc cement so that it will not come apart on me, but it is VERY permanent, so dont start gluing until you are ready to.  just take your time and dont get aggrivated with it.

Ok thanks for yalls help, anyone else have suggestions?

I saw on a grizzly snorkel post where they used rubber marine, exhaust hose i think, (this type of hose was on the exhaust of my jetski between the motor and the waterbox/muffler) I think this would be easier to get to the front rack since it would not have to be cut and angeled using fittings. then somehow attach pvc to the hose to run out the top of the plastic. Still trying to get as solid idea before I go buy the stuff, Dont know if it will work or be cost effective though, I will probably just do pvc all the way.

Anybody know if they make black pvc or am I going to have to paint it?

I'm going to use the Marine exaust hose on my snorkel too and the way I'm going to connect it to abs is with a coupler.

Still brainstorming on this, Would it work if I drilled into my belt exhaust snorkel and stuck the vents in and siliconed up the holes?

I wouldnt have to run them to the top since it would be sealed anyway, only way they would get wet is if my snorkel went under.

Just an Idea, if anyone has tried this and it didnt work, or knows it wont work, let me know please.

i dont think id try that. just go ahead and run them up top. seems kinda risky because the vibrations and all could end up makin them come loose.

I would just pull the stock ones off, you have to reposition where it comes up at the front plastic since you will have two srokels now and not just one. Plus i dont know if theres a good way to go from the stock ones to pvc?

thanks yall, I think I will just go ahead and run my vent lines to the top, better doing it right the first time instead of having to go back and fix it later if it messes up.

BTW what are all the vent lines? I know I have front diff, rear diff, carb., any others? and what hose yall use to extend them with?

got my trans snorkels done this weekend, probably gonna have to go back and make some kind of a plate for the rack to make them more sturdy, anyway, snapped a pic heading out the door this morning.

yeah I saw that one as I was running the snorkels,   several vents (I think 3) go up to the digital display so I left them there for now as I dont plan on getting that deep, since I dont have the carb snorked yet.

yeah eventually i will relocate the rad. not right now though.

I had to take alot of plastic out under the hood where the stock trans intake came up, I think that is why It is not as sturdy as I would like.

I am thinking about getting an aluminum or metal plate, cutting it the size of the recessed area under the hood and bolting it down to the plastic then cutting out just enough of a hole for my PVC to run through, and put a thin plate on the top of the rack also. I think this would get them sturdy until I decided to do the rad. relocate.

Also I would like to run intake up front eventually, what do yall think about putting one snork in front and centered on the trans snorks.  I think I may need 2 coming from the airbox so I will get enough air, but could I bring them together into one snork at the front?

Purpose of relocating the carb vent is to keep water out of your air/fuel mixture,

Not sure about location on an 03 kodiak if it is different or not?
When you start running your snorkels just look for all ventlines(small clear hose) and run them up higher.  Most of mine already go to the instrument pod so I left those where they were since I have not done the airbox yet and dont go that deep.

Snorking the trans is a must though, If your bike is like mine you dont have to get very deep in water to get your trans full. after I got mine done, you would not believe all the sand I have blown out of my trans, gotta pull it apart and clean it. Sand got in with muddy water I guess.
