No need for all of that. Take a set of car ramps and put them in the back of your truck against the cab. Drive the front wheels up on them. That will allow the wheeler to come further forward and rear wheels to sit on the bed , not the tailgate. You may even be able to shut the tailgate. If not take the tailgate off and hook the trailer up normally. If you dont have the ramps I'm talking about either buy a set or build some up rams out of wood and plywood. It will cost you $30 max and be way cheaper than the other suggestions, not to mention safer. With most of my bikes hauling them this way allowed the front rack to be higher than the cab, so I could pull up even further. I hauled many of bikes in the back of my Ford Ranger that way. It saved me a ton of fuel compared to pulling out the 1 ton. Let me know if it works. I bet it will be fine.
