long story short i was filling up at the gas station with a trailor of bikes and a guy asked me if i had ever been to mud nationals so we got to talkin about it and he told me he had heard that the county was gettiong tired of mud nationals and the liability and is going to flood mudcreek park to make a manmade lake so that the 09 nationals would be the last at mudcreek.........i was wondering i there was any truth to this......but just to make myself clear this is a rumor i heard from a guy in town and not anybody with any real authority

I would still call it rumors at this point.  The county makes so much money off of the mud nats I highly doubt they wouldn't want it there.  It is prolly just a bunch of old locals that don't like all the people in their town.  I mean think about all the motels that are sold out not only in Jacksonville but in the surrounding towns.  Then you have all the stores that sale foods and other goods.  JMO but they make too much money to want to stop it.

The Lake has been in the works for years before Mud Creek was opened.  Actually the flooding of mud creek bottom by the lake was one of the main reasons the land owner decided to turn it into a mud park; who cares if the land gets torn up, it will all be under water in a few years.  Then Mud Creek Offroad Park was a much bigger success then most anticipated.  Mud Nationals, Mud Stock, etc are big time money makers for this town; yeh there is a big head ache with putting on big events, but there is also a big reward.  If anything, the success of Mud Creek has created a push to hold off on the lake as long as possible.  The lake is coming though, and they moving forward.  I figure 2-4 years and it will be under water.  Enjoy while you can!

Problem will be finding another place that big and one that offers up such nasty muddy trails for everyone to ride on and get stuck on...lol was like 18,000 people there last year  take a place with alot of room to hold that many people..

Its to much money for the town to want them to leave just like was said.

GWC,
I believe your correct.
Too much money to be made to hurry up.
I think we all saw the difference in Gas Prices as the week went on!

I live in Jacksonville & personally NEVER hear complaints about Nats! The town makes a lot of profits off Nats... gas, food, hotel rooms, etc... they've been talking about this lake for years & years... since my parents were kids. I do think they'll eventually make it... but nobody really knows when it'll be. I don't see it being any time soon personally... but that's just my opinion! I live a mile from the park and you'd figure that we'd know SOMETHING being that close to the park seeing as how it might effect us just a little? I dont know of how many parks are capable of handling Nats like Mud Creek does! I'm sure there's some out there... but I don't know.

It will eventually happen, but it has nothing to do with Mud Nationals.

If you look at the topography of the area you would soon realize that the guy you were talking to is a moron.  If they flood the park they will also flood hwy 79

The lake will cover hwy 79.  They are going to build a bridge.
