alright sorry but i am just trying to figure out why all the mud bogs out there are pretty much just a race to see who can do the fastest water wheelie...i am not knocking anyone who does it because i have raced a few local ones myself but to me if it is a MUD bog why is it just a bunch of water...i feel that it should be some real mud rocking and riding to get to the end not just a contest to see the fastest water wheelie just my honest opinion

i totally agree....most of the time i don't care what anybody says, it is the bike that does alot of the work in a mudbog the way it is now.  probably 70% atv and 30% driver.  it needs to be the other way around.  There is no true mudhole that you should be able to make it through it less that 9 seconds. that is a water hole.  I have raced them before too and probably will again, but i would much rather it be more of a real competition between the riders and not who has the most crap done to get them through the water quicker.

I spoke with a Mud bog racer here recently, drives all over the country and is sponsored to race.  He showed me his lifted, lawed, nitrous bike that would absolutely fly.  I asked him to come to the local swamp and see how it would do.  The swamp is crossable just not easy.  He said the thick mud is not good on these certain type axles, and certain type tires.  Go r illa and outlaws combined in thick mud with roots and stumps would obliterate the bike.  He also said the risk of tearing up his bike or CV joint boots was not worth it.  I laughed when he told me the bogs have a rocky bottom with roughly 3-4' of water "pumped in".

I'll stick to watching, as mudholes and bogs are two different things...

Here is a good point....  If you do not like the mud bog pit then do not enter.  Some of the watered down holes turn into a good mud pit.  The reason they make the pits full of water is cause it keeps the bikes on a even field.  Now a pure mud pit like you are talking about most of the smaller classes will not be able to even turn their tires in.  And the bigger CC's will be snapping axles, busting Diff's, burning belts, and breaking driveshafts.  Some of us dont have sponsers and pay for all of the repairs out of our own pockets.  Yeck I broke a rear driveshaft and front diff at the HL series in McKinney not even 10 ft into the pit.  But like I said if you dont like a pit dont enter it...  Hay why dont you get a mud bog together and build the pit like you want it and see how it turns out...

Mud Bog Racing = Swamp Buggy Racing only real difference is the atvs dont use 5' tall tires to do it with.

Bad thing with thick mud in mud pits is most people seem to have A.D.D and cant seem to stay around to watch the whole race so they turned to water races, its faster and the people with A.D.D  dont get bored and leave.

JMOP.

I dont race in these racing because i really dont care for all the water and no real mud, but a TON of people do and love it so its just one of those things to Each His Own..

Oh and my Outlaws do just fine in the swamps never had a problem with them before so i am not sure whats up with that comment..???

I agree. A true mud bog is seeing IF you make it through, not how fast you make it through. If you break parts, build stronger parts. But, to each his own. This thread is going to make alot of people mad and/or get deleted, I'm sure.

i raced at Mud Nats the year before last, and have raced around here in some pits like that. Its not my thing but I wont say its bad or anything its all in what a person wants to do.
If i was going to race in mud pits "I" would want them to have more mud then water but thats me. differenet stroke for different fokes is all no biggy at all.

By the time our open class gets to the pits it is not that watered down.  Guys if it was not for the companys going out and starting the racing series we would still be sitting at home waiting on mud nats for the races again.  I love the series racing and I think it is turning the sport in the right direction.  I also like the the people we meet at the events and stories that get told..

There are events like this in some of the larger rides. usually called the team challenge or somthing like that. Sounds like alot of fun but I havent entered one yet. I personnally can ride swamp like trails with deep rutted holes alot better than crossing ponds . I am going to try out the bog pit for the first time this weekend at the mudpredators ride in wesson. We will see if I like it!

The combo of outlaws and swa mpy areas tend to break alot more stuff.  The guy I spoke with said all that.  I agree outlaws do good in swamps.  I'm pretty sure he meant the long weedy grass, hidden roots, sticks, and super thick mud was not too good on his high powered bike.

But I agree 100%, to each his own!  I prolly wouldn't take my $15,000 bike through some stuff a $3000 bike would go through.  It's just to expensive to repair.

Why does it block out  swa mp y???

Im with FF1501 on this one.  By the time the open class runs, the pit is not just a water hole anymore.  The mud is stirred up and there are significant ruts and obstacles to overcome.  I've never been to a HLPSR or a C M R race but I've been to a few bog competitions and the outcome does have some to do with the bike but mostly has to do with the rider.  If you think these bogs are just a water hole, go check em out for yourself.  I know that Red Creeks bog is one of the worst ones I have ever seen because its usually some pretty thick mud.  And it doesn't always have to do with who has the fastest bike.  3 years ago I watched my roomate beat John Cannon in a bog comp. at Red Creek shortly after John won at Mud Nationals.  John was on his Bomb 800 and my roomate was on his Foreman 500.  I'm not sayin my roomate was a better rider, but John just caught a bad rut and got turned sideways and couldn't go anywhere.  That may have been just a fluke but **** happens.  And If it was me, I deffinately wouldn't take my $15,000 bike through a swamp with roots and stumps and take a chance on breakin an axle or diff or maybe flippin it and totally ruining the motor.  Just my .02.

The comment on the making parts stronger thing. that aint gonna happen until the manufactures start making parts out of steel instead of aluminum. Cases, dffs...    A pure mud pit would be a bit long in the tooth. Have you seen how many people sign up on a big weekend?  Seems Creekbottom is going to have a new race and pit just for a little more mud along with the regular water race. This should be good as it only has one class besides the ruv's OPEN CLASS! This is gonna be good for both.

i love both I must say..but heck i am just a girl!   I have raced in Redcreek (which allowed me to buy a new motor..lol)  and had a blast....I have also raced in the "water" races.  I think i have a tiny opinion cause i race in the guys and the girls classes.  Which the pits tend to be worse by the time the girls race due to all the previous activity.   My bike for sure can not compete with the sponsored race bikes for speed in the water races....however i have NOT come in dead last ever in these pits so i hope that there is a tiny bit of skill to the riding.  My bike can go in both situations because i ride in some nasty stuff usually and i want it to be durable.  It would be fun to have a good mixture of both mud and water in some of the pits but since nothing is ever perfect for everyone..and i like to race i am happy with either.

I can tell you that if you have to wait 10 minutes between heats just to pull out bikes cause it is soooo bad that gets to be a bit much.  But if any of yall are in my area and want to hit some nasty holes "off the race scene" out on the trail  i will be happy to race you to the end!    GOOD TIMES

i to have wondered this from time to time cause i have been to all the truck bogs up north and and to me that was a real mud bog but then again i also got pretty mad when i got there and they had 2 wheel drives running and there back tires never even made it in and then i look and theres like 40 of them and it takes forever to get each one out and you have to wait for the big power to come out and when they finnaly do theres a wall of mud at the end they cant even get throu but i really dont care for the water races either cause like said in an earlier post is like swamp buggie reacing but on a water wheelie. which i undersatnd that its faster with all the bikes that show up there for it so i just stick to the trails and i dont enter any of it i usually watch for a min then i hit the trails cause they are empty cause everyone is either running the bog or watching but everyone has there thing
