Thats typically how bikes are dyno tuned.  Its not as accurate as having the o2 sensors in the head pipes or muffler joint

have any of you guys tried using an exhaust sniffer?  i would imagine that it'd be a lot easier than swapping exhausts.  plus you can easily tune for the persons specific exhaust.

http://www.daytona-sensors.com/download/WEGO_Motorcycle_Sniffer_Tech_Note.pdf

we weld a bung in the persons pipe so it is thier actual system we are tunning

do you just drill a hole and weld it up?  where do you put it?  my outy isn't running as well as it used to, so i'm planning to get a PC3 and get it tuned.  since i don't know anyone around here with enough knowledge about the subject, i figured i'd learn how to do it myself.

Yep, drill the hole; weld the bung on; install the O2 sensor and hook it up to the WBC or similar device; do some data log runs; make some adjustments; do some more datalog runs; make more adjustments; ETC....
Then go to the next throttle position.... and do some runs; make some adjustments ; and do some more runs; and make some more adjustments...........

I could go on, but I think you've got the picture

yup.  competed SPL in IASCA and dB drags for a few years.  then i got into SQ and became an IASCA judge.  haven't taken part in anything related to audio competition since i got into ATV's   both are expensive hobbies, but i like ATV's better.

well then it must be easy   i just suck at welding, so i can either butcher the bung weld or take it to the auto shop around the corner and have them weld it on for me

I've found it easiest to take the guess-work out of the Throttle position values, and how to tune specific cells based on real-world riding data(up to 44 minutes worth on the tuner that I use).  Here is a basic readout from Logworks software from the LM1/LMA3 combo that I use.  This setup requires you "clamp" rpm and tps wires in addition to the a/f ratio bung.  I generally go two steps farther and monitor MAP and Duty Cycle as well...As you can see by the readout, you can "click" on any instant in time and it will tell you exactly what is happening in all properties, so it becomes a simple linear interpolation to get the a/f perfect for the cell that this info falls inside.

I'm not sure if this is any better/worse than the Wideband Commander....I do wish I had a WBC because of the interfacing ability between it and the PC3.  I'm still trying to determine if I can get my software to interface with it and thus make the TPS/Duty cycle reads extremely simple...

Here is a screenshot of a basic run on the software that I use on TPS, RPM, and A/F ratio vs time...

i was checking out innovate motorsports LC1 and LM2 vs. the wideband commander.  i'll probably pick up the LC1, given its low cost.

They will both do the same thing but if you have a power commander, I would suggest getting the wideband commander for compatability.

Engie, quick question: explain to me what you were doing with the bike while you were tuning that particular screen shot, specifically load.  Curious about your rpm/speed ratio...

Sorry for being unclear...the above graph is just a "tutorial" graph that came with the software.  It was not a run on a "cvt" bike.

has anyone else heard info on a new power commander and wideband commander?

here's what someone said on another forum:

"I was at the Intermot Trade Fair here in Germany yesterday - and got some very interesting Information from the Dynojet Guys:

There will be a new PowerCommander available (PowerCommander V). They told me that the PC V will be available for the 2009 Models - means for 800s as well (but they couldn't tell me any specific date yet). The new PC V will have the same features as the PC III USB, but with the additional features of the Dynojet Multifunction Hub.

But the best improvement for me is that there will be an AutoTune Module with O2 Sensor available for the PC V, which adjust AFRs "on the fly" - making it a closed loop system, self adjusting for (smaller) engine mods.... I'm curious about the first reviews on  this...

Also the Wideband Commander will be updated to the Wideband Commander 2, but I don't have any details on this."

Sounds like a great idea!  Integrating the 02 sensor into ECU function would be great but all the moisture we ride is going to be devestating to the sensor!  Lets see what happens

that's what i was figuring.  it didn't sound like a good idea because i know water will mess up an O2 sensor pretty darn quick.  course with the snorkel i have on my exhaust now, i'm not too worried about it.  but i certainly don't want to be burning up $60 O2 sensors all the time.

If you can do a dual map (1 for each cylinder) with the new autotune like the pcIII then you can stick an 02 sensor in each head pipe close to the head.  This would be the highest efficiency and would only be ruined by moisture when the bike is "sunk"!

If that's the case, I would just "run" it for a few passes and allow it to set the maps for you, at which point I would unplug and be fully tuned.  Sounds like a great feature!!!
