and technically cody. the second problem should be continous growth. and if it is.....it must have e in there as well.

True...I didn't catch that. Would substituting natural logs solve that?

no natual logs will get you the same numbers. you have to  use the continous expontenail growth formula

LOL I was trying to cheat...knew it would get the same numbers. But thought I would use base e instead of base 10.

yeah i know mat.  thing is bateria growth is closer to conintious than it is to really segmented like the original problem suggests/

yeah i was just being nerdy complicated heheheheh it is kind of cool though how even colonization of bacteria mimics human existence...  there are those who say we as humans will reach a saturation point in our enviroment and start to suffer the same decline as is seen in bacterial cultures ... humans dying due to our own waste... there is chart i have someplace that shows about where this point occurs

well there is wonder in all of nature.  you guys ever study a bee hive for example. you know the bee hive is built with structure and angle so that it has the least surface area so that the bee's do not work as hard.  and we are talking that angles are precise to the 1/10 of a degree.  amazing

Speaking of the order of things if you get a chance take a look at a book titled "CHAOS: Making A New Science" by James Gleick. Good read. Turns out that there is even order and structure even in chaos.

lol that makes sense too. Maybe we should just start rocketing all the excrement into space and let the aliens deal with it.

you guys want a tough one. here one ive been working on for a while. lets say you have a circular fence with a radius of x.  and you tie a horse with a rope to the perminter of the fence. how long must the rope be so he can eat exactly half of the circular lot.  express your answer in terms of x(the radius of the circular lot)

i cant figure this one out. it makes me mad.

if it makes it easier lets say the radius of the lot is 100 foot. how long does the rope need to be?

if the yard is a 100 foot circle. the rope has to be 29.32 feet long. give me something hard

Yep...definately need trig functions in there. I got to a point that I can't get past now. At the two points that the circles intersect draw a straight line. From that straight line what is the distance to the fence that the horse is tied to?

the total square feet is 7850 so divide that in half...3925. X times pie squared= 3925....its very hard for me to explain because i can do this stuff in my head but its very hard to do when i have to so my work.

its not nearly that simple outlaw450. this horse is not tied to the center of the lot. he is tied to the fence  itself

Well with the cow tied to one point on the outer edge of a circle with diameter of 100 and radius of 50, 29.32 feet doesn't even allow the cow to reach the middle. There is no way it could eat half the grass in the pen.
