actually i wont go into detail but if the snatch block is fixed   AND it is attached to the weight being pulled itself. then it does double the force.  thats physics. what you said above is true with the single movable pulley does normally just change direction.  but if  you attach it back to the bike you are doubling the distance and 1/2 the required force.

think about it this way. if you put the rope through the snatch block and run it back to the bike and ancor it.
for ever 10 feet that is rolled up onto the spool the quad is moved 5 feet closer to the tree.  this is where the mechanical advantage comes into play. i hope i can make some sence to ppl here.

none of your drawings have the setup described for winching. exept the change of direction setup which does not give you any mechanical advantage really.  but to the person that said you have to have more than one pulley to double the winch capacity. you are wrong on this matter.  and if you hook up 2 snatch blocks in a certain way. you are muliplying the pulling capcity by 3

ok imagine this. you are going to pull  up a 150 pound guy up a elevator shaft. with a pulley at top.  if you are to the side how much force are you going to have to apply? 150 pounds. why because for every foot you pull the rope the elevevator rises one foot. there is no mechanical advantage.

no imagine this. you are the 150 pound guy.  the 150 pound force is now supported by the two strands of rope (one to the pulley and the other back to your hand)  now for every foot you pull the rope. you are moving  your body 1/2 a foot higher.  now you have mechanical advantage.  you double the distance you had to move the rope. if you want to go up 50 foot you will have to pull 100 foot of rope.  but you will have to apply half the force (75 pounds)

regardless of the snatch block theory if you can get a 3000lb winch for just a few more $$$ get it cause its worth it.
i went from using warns 2500 to there 3000lb sealed and noticed not only pulling power but also the quieter operation as well as batt load.
its just a better package all together.

If you take into account rider weight then its probably just about right
