Wow, that is really nice work. My hat's off to you man.

Looking at that really big bore kit reminds me at my ole days at the drag strip racing my 13b Turbo RX-7. Running on alcohol, the turbo with more than 35 pounds of boost and enough nitrous to euthanize a small city lol.

And for those who doubt his extimate of 250HP, I have seen cars with 2.0L engines, HEAVILY modified and they can pull almost 1000HP

I've put the 825 motor on the engine dyno yesterday, and got 162hp @ 7500rpm with 21lbs boost. It made 120hp (150 engine) to the tire, with the stock motor, which was with 28lbs boost @ 8500rpms. I'm gonna turn it more today, and turn up the boost, I'm pretty sure this 825 will make way over 200hp, I'll know in a day or two.

What size turbo you have Greg? And what compression? Sounds like you're building a monster man, good luck.

Are these dyno's on your shop? chassis and crank dyno...

Less boost, less rpms, 42 more horses. Good work.

The 825 blew up at 200hp, threw a rod when we were trying to pull it to 8500rpms. Still just 21lbs boost too.

The turbo is something like a Garrett gt22, 11 to 1 compression, on the motor that's on the dyno now, that blew up. The big bore will prolly be about the same.

Yes we have the dynos here.

I think you're confused. He made 162CHP and 120WHP with the old set up that was 150CHP. So it's only 12HP more with less boost and less rpms...still pretty good though.

Safer too!

It actually made 200hp, on the pull before it blew up, today. It had 170hp at 7000, then we turned it 8000, and it made 200hp, so we went for 8500, was going thru the pull, and around 8200 or so, it let go. So now, I'm 50 hp up from where I was, with less boost, and less rpm. 9000rpms will put it at prolly 230, add boost, and it'll prolly make 250-275hp. Soon as I get the jugs honed, and some alum rods, I'm gonna try the big bore with this setup. Maybe it'll make 300hp! That'll be five times what it had from the factory, I'm at 3.3 now.

You should hold back on the RPMs. That monster jug at 9000RPMs sounds kinda scary specialy for all the work you have put up on it.

You need to stretch that frame so you can use the power when it makes it back in the bike,a wheelie bar will not allow the power to the ground like a longer frame will,I would try it first but I bet it will not stay down at all with that much Boost and Torque!!!Way to go that thing will be a Beast when done, man 825 with 200 HP and now a 1000cc with all that Boost,it will be hard to hold after a second of touching the gas, like a Snake sit com and then it Strikes, thats what this 1000 will be like!!

If you were talking about the RX-7 yeah it makes insane power. but a quad hitting 300+ ponies is a bit scary even for me.

But I wouldn't mind giving it a go at the strip.

could he use the 4" catvos lift and run shorter suspension?  that would extend the trailing arms by a few inches and give it a wider stance for more stability.

SWEET!!!

So, how are you accurately fueling this setup???  I know you are using the Microsquirt, but it just seems that it would be difficult to even be close "the first time you turn up the rpms/boost".

I'm planning on making a solidworks model of something similar to your approximate setup in the next few weeks...should be fun to draw anyway, because I'm nowhere NEAR the point of an actual build....

I am NOT using a Microsquirt, I'm using a MoTeC ecu. I am using an O2 sensor, just like everyone else that tunes these things. No, you won't even be close, just make it fat and lean back from there, the way all new setups are done.

Lighter weight, that's a given.  But that kind of power on aluminum rods?  Sounds like a setup for another rod failure.

Aluminum rods grow with age and use and have to be re-sized. Aluminum work hardens at a faster rate than steel. That is the more stress cycles aluminum is subjected to the more brittle it becomes.  Aluminum rods offer superior performance but they become brittle and can snap after some period of time. You have build the engine for the aluminum rods due stretch at high rpm.

I am sure he is using them as shock absorber for the bottom end.  They can take the shock  better.

Nice job by the way

They don't suddenly snap like steel ones do. All high hp car motors use alum rods. They prolly don't last as long as steel, but I'll be in there for something else before fatigue becomes a problem. Also alum gets soft with heat, enuf it won't just snap, from being brittle.

not to mention the tinsel strength of good aluminum is pretty darn high   i use a lot of 7075-T6 in my shop.  like mrrpm said, it doesn't just snap like steel does.  they use it on airplanes for a reason   plus it is way easier to machine.

Older alum rods used 7075, but most of the guys making them nowadays say they use a propriatery alloy, but I'd bet it's real close to 7075.

it makes sense that over the years they develop a better alloy of aluminum for their application.  when a need arises, someone will develop something new.  as for being proprietary, i doubt they make their own aluminum, so i'm sure with deep enough pockets you could get something almost identical from the mill.
