My dad is getting a bit older and the old 1991 Yamaha isn't quite cutting it for comfort.  We have 600 acres of land and he likes to dink around it a lot.  He has been talking about getting a better riding ATV and I think my brothers and I are going to go in together and pick one up for him as a gift.

My question is this:  What is the smoothest, most comfortable atv out there?

Power is not paramount here....but rather comfort.  We have a lot of trails that are just rough to run on with the older machines.  I'm think one of the newer IRS machines might be nice.  But some of them seem stiff as a board on the showroom floor.

Anyway....let me know your thoughts.  And please don't start fighting with each other over brand loyalty and turn this into a bashing thread....

Polaris Sportsman, and not just because i own. I've rode quite a few brands and it is by far the most comfortable. I just wish that had power steering when I got mine. I'm sure more people will post on this topic, and Polaris will most likely win the consensus.

Most IRS bikes do infact feel very stiff when you push down on them or just set down on them on the show room floor, they will smooth out once under way. The Polaris is one of the smoothest riding quad and mine would not move a 1/4" while it was setting still but once under way it was like a marshmellow.
I also think the Honda Rincon is spose to be a smooth riding atv as well.

if you or your brothers are going to borrow it when he is not looking, get a can-am.he will have the comfort and yall can enjoy the power.if he will be the sole rider get a polaris and save the money.it will have plenty of power and you cant beat the smooth ride for what they cost.

grizz 550 or 700.  if you turn down the shocks it will ride great and it has power steering which i think would be great for anyone...especially the elderly.

My vote would be for the Grizzly 700 with power steering and remove the sway bar on the rear. I haven't ridden any new model Polaris so i cant say either way on them.  either way it will be a hue improvement on what he has now.

by the way PM me the price of the 91 model after you get him the new one. hahaha
