ORIGINAL: greg mcmullen As for the heat the turbo produces mixed with the cold water, that is not a problem at all, just a little steam. I will admit that it does take some creative snorkeling on the ATVs to keep the intake clean since the air filter has to be on the end of the snorkel pipe, but the power is great. I do believe a certain ex-ape company employee was doing quite well in the Open class with a turbo Outlander. They just need a little tweaking with the clutches and intakes and they will be the force to be reckoned with. Hopefully next year I'll have a little more time to put into my race bike and the races. You couldn't be more correct. The water will have little effect on the turbo when you hit the pit. It's not like you guys are driving 4 miles generating heat inside the turbo before you hit the starting line. The biggest problems with running a turbo in those conditions has not really been talked about. All turbos must have a watse gate. Without one, you left off the throttle and the turbo has no where to exhaust the boost so it would blow the butterfly out of the throttle body/carb. So most of these smaller turbos have internal waste gates. Which means the boost gets directed into the exhaust port when you let off the throttle. Problem solved. A turbo has nothing on the outside that would be effected by mud water. Everything thats important in inside. It's no different than the engine or tranny. Everything is inside. The problem you will have has already been brought up. Keeping a big enough intake that the turbo will not be choked down by air flow restriction, but small enough that it's not a funnel leading directly into the air box. Some creative snorkels and snorkel placement is the key. As Gmac has already said, a RUV has much more room and hiding spots to run those snorkels to solve these problems. All of this stuff is still practically new to the ATV community. With a little time, hard work and some dumb luck somebody, somewhere will figure out all the tricks and get one tuned in to perfection and the race will be on. my kit has a wastegate. im working on the r&d. let yall know how it comes.
