First off , I'm a motor work NOS kinda guy. Turbo's are an excellent application to any motor for high horsepower gains.. Of course the biggest pain is keeping the turbo free of any debris or other object that would hinder the amount of air forced into the motor.. Obviously with what the majority of us do, that is darn near impossible with the amount of mud and wet sand that we send flying around the machine. With quads, the biggest issue is protecting the intake without restricting its needed airflow... a few runs through a pit and your pretty much looking at a forgone conclusion that there isnt going to be a dry ( or clean ) spot left on the bike.. The best I've personally run one was at max boost and was topping the motor out at around 100HP. But within a few runs, the filter and intakes were clogged up and the motor was choking itself down. There will be a time soon when we've got it figured out and when whoever does gets it right, its game over.
IF there was an application that would have a better trial and error run with the turbo's in the pits it would be an RUV. Plenty of places to tuck that thing away and let it get all the air it needs without risking 6lbs of mud dumped on it.. Just my 2 pennnies

you may have a point there im on my 3rd front diff and that was before the turbo. im only concerned with the trans lasting 3 to 4 runs in the pit at a time!

i have one more thing to add. i don't think anyone that races has just thrown a bike together , put it in the pit and it just dominated on the first try? you have to go through the test and tune process. i just need a lil more time, heck i dont even have my speedwerx ecu dialed in nor my boondockers for that matter. i'm not trying to start anything, just trying to let some people know that you dont have to bore and stroke your motor and loose the dependability, you can turbo it and have good reliable horsepower. i mean look at all diesel trucks, could you imagine em without the turbo? i had one an older model no turbo, that thing was slow! if anyone is interested in turbo, prices,etc... let me know and i can put you in contact with the right guy!

If you guys want to go fast in the pits, why not use a blower?? It will make 3hp per cu in (flywheel) if you don't know what you're doing, 5hp per cu in, if you do.

As far as turbos go, mine makes 120hp to the tire, stock bore, stroke, valves, and cams.

My biggest worry with a turbo would be the water and mud cracking the exhaust manifold from being so hot and then getting cooled down so fast.

How are you guys hooking up the oil feed and return lines?

A small turbo that would be ok for a big bore quad could probably be bought for $100 if you knew where to look, I bet a S200 with a 2" compressor ind. and a .6ar turbine housing would work well.

my buddy got the dragon fire kit with the turbo and huge k & n filter and the dragonfire exhaust and programmer. with a 7 inch lift and 32's, i would not buy the turbo i dont think its worth that much myself jmo

From what i've been researching and what mrrpm has helped me with in the past, I can see that turbos are the way to go, but like some have said it takes time to get all the bugs worked out..but once they get em set in just right...they will fly.

Keep it up Ben.. I have thought about the turbo end of it and didnt think I could get the turbo lag out of it and still be able to hammer down on it. That why I use bigger CC's and NOS. NOS is just another turbo. It adds O2 into the cyclinders just like the turbo but just a little easier on the pocket book. I have been installing turbos on Diesel pick-ups for about five years now and we are just now getting a turbo that will do what people want to do with them. And some of these guys also install NOS to take the Turbo lag out.. The thing you got to know about the turbo is to get the ratio in the sweet spot to make a motor last. Too much drivepresure will cause too much heat and not enough drive presure means a laggy turbo. You are going to be testing a tuning exhaust housings, compressor wheels, and bearings. Hope you and the sponser are ready to get them dialed in. I would love to see a razor skim just a little.

Here is the dyno graph of the stock RZR and then with the turbo during initial testing. The clutching was not tuned at all at this point - simply enough weight to keep it out of the rev limit to get a decent run. A production kit was tested in AZ and confirmed more than double the horsepower of stock at the rear wheels.
With all the forms of performance upgrades available, a turbo will generally give the most increase for money spent as well as being more reliable and easier on the motor.
There are a few RZR turbo kits on the market today with more being developed and soon to be released. I have not seen any that are $5500.00 yet. Turbos and turbo packages are not equal. This is part of the reason of for the difference in the prices of the kits available now.
As others have said, when the clutching is dialed in, this bike should be impressive.

Mr. Kleinwild....i have posted the magazine write up on the kit i have on my 08 rzr. if you look at page 9 i think there is a dyno of the rear wheel horsepower of oh around 78-80hp. i think that would be a lil over 100 hp at the crank? correct? i have posted my kit for you viewing pleasure/proof of what i say is true. i dont lie to impress nobody! plus on top of the turbo i have a few motor mods from Speedwerx. thank you sir.

I THINK THAT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT KIND OF TURBO. SOME DONT HAVE QUITE AS MUCH LAG AS OTHERS. ALL I KNOW IS THAT IN 5 FEET IM AT MAX POWER.

The dude is ruthless and will hunt you where ever you post! Don't let it get to you, though. I used to be a regular target/victim of his (still am occassionally). A little secret I found out is that he's really just a good ole boy that likes to get a rise out of people! One of the nicest and most helpful people you'll meet in Mud Racing. I like to think of him as Dakotah "Teddy Bear" Klein!!
