I'm not sure on the rich condition, but I would consider it an attribute of an exhaust that flows too much.
When carbureted Harley guys throw on straight pipes and try to dyno tune them they find that no matter how they jet them, they lose power from the loss of backpressure effecting the scavenging process. A good fix is installing a bolt from the underside of the exhaust about 6 inches up the pipe that can be "adjusted" by installing washer stacks of different size and number of washers all held on the bolt by a lockwasher and nut.
You can literally see the difference on the dyno run printouts between the different combinations of washer stacks.
Anywho, it may be something to consider doing to try increasing backpressure. Maybe installing it in the rear of the pipe where the pipe runs into the canister?
