hi all im new to the forum this is my first post yay! so heres the question. i have a 660 grizzly with 30" silverbacks on it. i have installed the HL extreme clutch kit and it still doesnt seem to be quite what im looking for. i know i can change the weights in the primary and get that like i want but what about the wet clutch. i installed the 5 springs and it did help but just guessing not more than 300 rpm increase in stall. does any one know how much more stall these springs are supposed to be over stock and can i drill a small hole in the end of the wet shoes to make them lighter to get more stall? if so how big a hole thinking 1/8 inch and how much stall will i gain by doing so and any problems that may be assosiated with doing this ? sorry for so many ?s its just with these big tires the grizz dont have the hole shot i was hoping for in hi range thanks

Call EPI and they will set you up with some stiffer wet cluch springs. I wouldn't mess around with the clutch shoes, they are real expensive!

oh so the epi springs are stronger than the ones in the HL extreme kit. i thought they would be the same since epi designed the extreme kit for HL. and i checked the price for the wet clutch and yeah its about $240 if i mess it up so ill lose that if drilling dont work but if it does ill save a hundred on the new springs. oh and any idea how much difference in stall of the hl extreme springs vs the epi competition springs or if anyone has successfully drilled the wet clutch shoes or ever heard of that being done pleas comment thanks

I'm curious of this too. I'm working on a Grizzly for a friend of mine. It has 27x12 Mudlites on it with the Highlifter clutch kit (not the extreme) and it's a slug. Won't spin, no wheelies, just dead on the bottom. I'm going to try some different weights in it and probably put some shims in the primary but I think it would definately help if it had some stall.

well i drilled a 1/8 inch hole in the end of all 5 clutch shoes and it seems to give it a little more stall i probably could of even went with a 3/16 hole but didnt want to over do it however you do risk messing up the clutch shoes but it worked for me, so far so good i havent rode it but a couple miles since i done it though, however if i had knew then what i know now i would of just bought the competition stall springs from epi and a stiffer secondary spring and made my own clutch kit, now i need that big bore kit lol

Yeah, I talked to EPI about their competition stall kit. It's about 800 rpms over stock. Apparently the springs that come with the Highlifter kit are about 400 over stock. It makes me wonder if they even installed them when they installed the rest of the kit because this thing has no stall. It engages instantly.

yeah i could tell just a little difference with the HL spings but it was very little you really had to be paying attention to notice it . probably would work well with smaller tires though

Well, I got the Grizz fixed. I got it apart and noticed the belt wasn't coming to the top of the secondary sheave. (about 1/8" down secondary and about 3/16" up from bottom on the primary). It was a Highlifter belt on it. Took the primary apart reset all the rollers and put back together with the OEM belt. WOW what a difference. It will wheelie in high now. And it gave it the stall it was supposed to have. I had my buddy who owns it stop over and test drive it and he's happy as **** with it.
