Now that makes sense Voodoo. 3TV just put a kick but Ron Woods on his. I should ask him what it did to the throttle response. Have you heard it? That baby sounds good.

Interesting.  Well I plan to get rid of my Grizz for a new quad for next year, and I've been leaning heavily towards the 800R XT, but so far it doesn't seem to be any better than an 08.  Hopefully this gets resolved, but in the mean time I'll be anxiously awaiting reviews on the new Sportsman 850 XP.

The R as great as I think it will be is leaving room for question and debate which is not typical of Can Am. They thrive on "30% more power than this and 46% more power than that." With the 09 outty not showing absolute signs of taking the Cat, it makes me wonder about the big picture here. Why was the R designed? I don't see this as a model in 2010. I think this is a one year model. This sounds like a stall tactic for something bigger. Now I still think this is a kick butt machine and with the engine hours it'll probably be #1. So don't take my words the wrong way. I'm just saying this is not characteristic of a company who thrives on completely slaughtering the competition in power. This is a stall.

I am still getting the 09 ....

A exhaust upgrade is gonna wake up the HP IMO....;think  about it.....larger intake...larger air filter....and the same stock exhaust.........it needs air        .....JMO.............

Here is what I am thinking, I am not expecting any more than a normal 10% or so power bump that an exhaust normally offers , but if the torque gain is enough to get it rolling a little quicker by waking up the bottom end then, that could make all the differnce in the world. Keep in mind this is just my theory, of one possabilty, I have not had a chance to test it.

I plan to start working on that, as soon as it gets here, its expected to land Nov/Dec. There shoudl be some reviews out there before mine gets here, since the main reason I wanted to try one was to get to try out the EPS, and those are not supose to ship till NOV/DEC.

As to the Outlander, it was better than most anything out there before, the 09 is better, but if pure drag race speed is all you after the Tcat is likely to be the winner again in the 4x4 catagory for 09. I put the odds of the Sp850 beating even the Outlander at a long shot, and as I experieced this weekend the Tcat can still beat an Outlander, that has not changed, at least in 300-400 foot it can.

Ya, the Outlander XT is still the best looking IMO.  I'm not interested in a T-cat.  The 800R is still probably the favorite, but I've likes Polaris machines ever since we got out 98 Sportsman 500, so I want to hear the reveiws/comparisions with the new 850 XP.  Power steering is also something I've gotten used too now, and although I think I could go without it, it's a wonderful feature!

yes, the 650's helix has a steeper angle on it.  we have a pretty in depth conversation going on over on aurora wheelers forum.  the 800's helix can be machined to about the same angle as a stock 650 helix.  the 650 can be machined even more for even more low and mid end pull.

It's a great topic but I haven't heard much on if it would benefit the rene as much as it does the outty.

Yeah..me either... I think I will stick with my original plan for now and let someone else try this thing out...I will be getting low end increases with the Pipe and pistons anyway....

How much larger is the intake and tb bore?  Any change in clutch weight/springs?  Sounds to me like they went milder on the clutch and/or ignition timing to control the launch...

We don't know if it was the clutch, timing, new cam, etc. that's causing the low lag. It could be a little of all three. Supposedly the weights are heavier and the cam is a top end cam, etc. etc.

It seems like I read somwhere the intake was something like 40% larger. There were some guys on Aurora that checked the part numbers, and said the Rengade recieved the Outy's clutch. Its my guess that the weaker bottom end is mainly do to the new CAM's or I supose its possible that its in the ECM program as well. Time will tell. Lots of things to test and figure out.

I talked to 3TV and he said that the Ron Woods pipe added to mid and top end. He said there was no improvement on bottom end. I don't know if this concludes the pipe theory or not because different pipes add different torques from what I've read. I figure since it's the famous Woods pipe, it would add some validity to the thoughts. Maybe the HMF is better at adding low end torque?

The slip on pipes I have tested have showed more torque than the Woods I have tested. The woods typically will show 1-2 hp more than the Slip on pipes, but the torque is 3-5lbs less. Thats why they don't seem really any faster with the woods than the HMFs do out in the field.

Ok, I was thinking along those lines but wasn't sure. Any pipe better with torque than HMF?

It seems most of the slip on pipes offer about the same performance. We tested Vodoos Wilyco pipe on the dyno at the mud nats a few months back and it was making the same sort of gains that I had seen with the HMFs. The Wyleco is the pipe I am planning on using on the 09 with ceramic coated head pipes. Just because it has the abilty to tune the DBS way down for areas that I ride where a lot of noise might be a problem at some point, I will have the abilty to actually go quiter than stock if need be, or wide open for the power like the HMF. I am not planing on getting real carried away with this 09, its pretty much a trail machine, that can possibly, be used for competitions down the road when ever its time to retire the 06' all together.  I am planning on trying this 650 helix mod just to see if there is any differece, but that will come after the pipe test.

If you get the woods, and I do the wilyco, should we get a chance at some point like last spring to test them, I would be happy to bring the dyno tires again and we can see how these two exaust compair on the 09s with the new intakes and cams that the 09s have, we might see something different than what we saw on the old machines.
