whats redneck about if it works keep things simple they always work better that way i mean if u change up where it goes into the cdi ur gonna have to ground something somewhere to get it to think its in neutral so why not do it the simple way

If I have to explain why that is an improper procedure then you obviously wouldn't understand the reason.

well enlighten me on why it will not work now i admit i dont know if it will work on the es models but i have done it to others and its worked fine so far

Of course it’ll work (on manual shift models). It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that grounding the neutral wire will allow the bike to start in gear. I mean, it’s not like you found a cure for cancer or anything. You haven’t uncovered some top secret procedure. People have been grounding the neutral wire on their Honda ATV’s since the days of the ATC250ES Big Red. Same circuit, same result.

But you see, there are two ways of doing things - the easy way and the right way. Grounding the neutral wire to allow an ATV to start in gear is the easy way.  That is why I came up with a better way... the right way. My procedure allows the bike to start in gear while keeping the neutral and reverse light functions intact.

Do you want to be known as a person who takes shortcuts and performs shoddy work? Or do you want to be known as a person who takes pride in his work and is willing to go the extra mile to do a top-notch job? Judging from your bad advice and poor mechanical ability, I’d say you are more than happy to take the easy way out and perform shoddy work, and that is your choice. In the end, people will learn to ignore members like you and they will gravitate towards brilliant, knowledgeable members like me.

I haven't done the start-in-gear mod on a Foreman 450S in quite some time, but according to the wiring diagram(s), the procedure for the 98-01 Foreman 450S should be the same as the one for the Foreman 400 I posted in the helpful links sticky.  The same procedure should also work for the 02-04 Foreman 450S, but the diode may have to be removed on these models.

This does not apply to electric shift Foreman 450 models.
