look at the winchester sx3!! sbe 2 and the extrema are great but very pricey!! hands down the remington 870 and the mossberg 835 and 500 are great!! you can paddle a boat...use it as a walking stick... and still pop those birds!!!

There are a lot of excellent suggestions here. Certainly, if you can swing the money, the Benelli SBE I or II are among the top choices. Ditto for the Beretta Xtrema (I or II) - which is perhaps a tad more forgiving in the muck you get with waterfowl hunting. I have owned both.

If you wish to preserve the wallet some, the 11-87 is fine too. Some of them act up, but it is usually fixable, and for the most part, the only real thing that ever goes wrong with them is the little rubber O-ring seal, and you can get a couple spares and never really have to worry. Funny thing with parts like that, they never fail when you have an extra. It is only when you do not have one and it is late on a Friday before a long weekend...

Stoeger markets (M2000) what used to be a fancy model for Benelli some years back, but is pretty run-of-the-mine now. But do not let it fool you. They are decent for the money.

I've had them all....Browning Golds, Beneli's, Remingtons, and Winchester's.......

But nothing compares to my Beretta Xtrema II....

My list:
1) Xtrema II
2) SBE  (never shot the SBE2)
3)Browning  Gold 3 1/2
4) Remington SP-10   (this gun shot really really well.  I had 0 problems with it....2 Friends with them were not so lucky)

I have a 870, 1100, and a old Beretta. The semi-auto 1100 will not shoot low brass shells but is excellent for deer hunting with 3"-00's. The semi-auto Beretta is the best shooting shotgun I have ever owned, it has never jammed and you can shoot doves all day long without getting your shoulder sore. I hardly ever shoot the 870 but it is a good gun if you like pumps.

Im a very big duck hunter and ive owned just about every shotgun there is,they are all good shotguns but if you dont mind taking apart and cleaning it every once in a while browning gold is the only way to go imo.

I have the Benelli Super Nova in max4. If I could afford it I would get the Super Black Eagle II. Also check out the new Remington 105CTi or the Winchester SX3.

The thing about an expensive gun is: You have to know what you are going to use it for... If you are a hard core duck hunter, you are going to bang your gun up in the boat, get it wet, and abuse it more that the average hunter who doesnt duck hunt. I prefer a cheaper/pump shotgun because I dont shoot as many shells as i would with an auto (With the price of shells rising like the almighty gallon of gas, thats a very good thing.) and if it gets dropped, wet, scratched, submerged, stepped on, or hit by a train ( That actually happened to a friend of mine.) I wont have to worry about abusing a thousand + dollar gun...IMO choose wisely...

Remingtons are time proven amd easy to find parts and accessories for, heck you can get them at Wal-Mart. IMO, go with the Benelli. Yes, I know, they're expensive, but unless your gonna sell it after the season, it is a life long investment. I own a Benelli Super Black Eagle II, a SBE I, and a Franchi V612(a Benelli owned company). I also own Remington 870's, 1100's, and 11-87's. Each gun is used for a certain kind of hunting. They are all good all-around guns though. Depends on how deep your pockets are!

i know i'm probably late in the conversation, but all the guns listed above are great quality, but i see a common phrase........."POCKET BOOK", lol

i'm not an avid hunter, like to on occasion, don't plan my life around it type guy.  i purchased a Mossberg "Maverick" about a year ago from the "red neck gathering grounds".........(aka WAL MART, lol)  for $150........for me, it's been a great buy, i've never had a jam, missfire, or part problem.  i say this and next time i go to use it, it will crap out on me, lol!  but i personlly think for the money, it's a good shot gun, i'm sure it's not as smooth as some of the others, and it might have slightly more trigger pull than some of the others, but hey i'm not picky.

i just thought i'd throw it in here as a "back up" or second choice option..........especialy for your pocket book!
