This whole topic has got me going for a number of resons...But,  If you look real close on Can Am's website it says Renegade 800R...Then it tells you what engine it has....    800 H.O.  HUH!  That's funny, that is what's in my 08 Renegade 800.  To only gain 5 or so HP, can be done in the tune, or clutch setup.  I think it's funny some people are or where so surprised that the 800R didn't do better in ( the ) race or a race.  STOCK FOR STOCK, RIDER FOR RIDER, 5 or so horse power on a 600'ish plus pound atv will not just rocket you lengths and lengths ahead in a drag race!  END OF STORY!  50 horse YES 5 or 10 horse NO.

The video proves exactly what Can Am says they did for '09.  Can Am says they made the low end more managable, and it is, even if it is a tad slower off the line.  Can Am also says they increased top end power, and they did.  The '09 Can Am beat the '08 Can Am on the top end every single time.  So I agree, why the big surprise?

The power is there. People have been dyno'ing these things and it reads 68.4 horsepower everytime so I don't doubt the power, it's just hard to see it in the video. It could have been weight, skill, break in period not met, etc., etc. That's why you just can run with everything you see.

I dissagree with this. A piped and programmed Renegade will put lengths on a stock Renegade. That's about a 5 or 10 horse difference. You seem angry about this discussion?

Sometimes people forget the varibles that go on in a video.  tires, weight, shock adjestment, hookup, response i could keep goin on all the way to what octane of fuel and how clean your air filter is.

Im sure Can-am did their homework and the 800R will turn out just fine :)

I have my 09' Outy 800R now, very, very minimal seat time, but it has been tamed on bottom, its not broke in yet and its hard to tell much in only a few miles of seat time, but one thing is for sure if you jump on an 06' then on an 09', you woulod swear the 06' is faster, just because of the more aggressive low end clutching, the 09' feels even smoother or softer on bottom than the renegade weighted clutch setup in my 06'. Not planning to make any changes till I get it broke in and really get a feal for what I have, but first ride was interesting to say the least, 09' Outy has very smooth power now.

Not for sure but I have heard that the computer retards timing until after 10 hrs. If this is true that would probably be the reason for it feeling slower than the 06'. Hang in there guys, When it is all said and done, you all will probably satisfied with the bikes performance!

I am not sure there is any truth to the computer break in time, its been debated back and forth for several years now. I have not seen it on the dyno in my ecxpersince there is now magic break in periord based on the hour or mileage meter just simple old fashion rings seating normal break in that can take a few miles or minuts up to several miles or hours depending on how you approach the break in.

Me I do the ride em like you stole them approach. I do verry the throttle allot the first few miles but thats about it, then after the firtst couple miles WOT is involved. LOL

I will say the motor was tight and needs broke in to be abele to tell whats what. I will also be racning it with one of my old Outys 800s that is piped to and I will be dyno'ing the new one along with adding a pipe to it as well.

There are several upgrades that were worth it, the title says its 68.4 hp the title to my Tcat said 65hp, the key components to make that power are real, there maybe some need at some point to make some ajustments to the clutching to make the new found power really show up, but those components that seperate the 06-08s from the 09s will always be there on the 09s makeing the 09s have more power. Plus the new Black looks awsome IMO.

You must be stupid. 5 and 10 hp is a lot for these motors.

As of a car now that would be different, but were talking about small compact motors. Not no 5.7liters.  If you don't think 5hp is a lot well your down right stupid.  Thats the best way I can say it.

5hp will and does show up on the drag srtip, at best guess at least a couple bike lengths in 300 foot when comparing these 800 Can-am machine to each other. 10hp should be about 4 lengths. That said the rest of the setup can easily negate that hp, which so far seems to be whats happening.

Hate to pop the bubble, but after this weekend, I'm happy with my 09. Had no probs outrunning the 08's or 07's. Running stock everythings other then a PC III  that was puttin the motor on the rich side, it ran 78 mph at 8100 rpm. With the type of racing we do though, the clutches will need to be re-worked

I would say to bump up the low end you will need heavier weights. It will put some of that jerkyness back in it, but I am betting they are faster with the a heavier fingers. Maybe worth looking at going to an 06 Outy finger. Not sure whats what in terms of OZs and dalton weights would work best for stock tires.

Aint real sure on the weight yet, it will defintley be getting some springs though.
I will admit I wasnt feeling the 09 from the intitial time I jumped on it monday but i was really impressed saturday.
While it didnt have the snap that the 08 did, it was more managable off the line. Basically meaning that I could mash on it and not have to worry about the front end wanting to go to the 1 o'clock position. It would still stand up but at a more managable distance where I didnt have to worry about working the throttle.
The neatest part was lettin the 08's purposely get a jump on a rolling start and then walk them back in at the 600 ft mark. Very very impressive

Thx Jun

That is exactly what Can Am said prior to release...Top End HP Increase....
IMO..I would like the 09 setup better///U don't have to worry about bouncing the back of your head off the ground...

Dawayne's 09 800R Renegade was very impressive!  Big difference in mid-top power.  Once it is clutched...its going to be a beast!!

That is my theory as well. I'm waiting to hear some clutching stuff I could do even if it's just switching out the old gade flyweights.
