Im getting ready to snorkel my buddy's rzr and was just wondering how many vent lines there are that need to be snorkeled? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

birdmanf250 -> RE: 08 rzr snorkel (7/25/2008 6:03:54 PM)

5 vent lines.

1. front diff
2. crankcase
3. transmission
4. transfercase
5. rear diff

some say there is a slit cut into the crankcase vent from the factory, i dont know if that is true, i cant seem to find the slit on mine.  you can just tie onto them with some barbed fittings and hose clamps or rerun them from the start.

good luck

Thanks birdman for the info. is there anything on the fuel vent line that needs to be done? I read somewhere that some one had got water in there fuel tank through the vent line. Im not sure just dont want to take any chances.

I want to snorkel mine and what do you need to put to seal the lid on the air intake?

dgraham225 -> RE: 08 rzr snorkel (7/27/2008 11:41:24 AM)

in addition to what birdmanf250 said,

on the bottom of the throttle body, there is a vent line with a check valve on it... i kept the check valve inline, but run it up with the rest of them.  and like he said, there IS a slit in the crankcase ventline and it WILL suck in water if its not sealed up or the line replaced..

and yes, there is also a vent line for the fuel tank that will take in water also..

So in total, there are 8 things to watch for..

birdmanf250 -> RE: 08 rzr snorkel (7/27/2008 7:23:05 PM)

sweet, thanks, i will have to take care of those things.  yeah i forgot the fuel tank although i did do mine, sorry.  unless i was wrong on one of the five things i said (maybe not one for the transfercase). . . if so sorry again.

for the time being for me to seal up the crankcase line, where is the slit at until i can replace it.

sure enough there is a vent line with a check on it.  is that 1/4" line as well?

to seal up the air box lid, use a bead of axle grease all the way around instead of silicone so it will be easier to take off when you need.  Dielectric grease all of your electrical connections.

sorry for the mistake and thank you dgraham225 for the info as well.

after reading this i looked and looked and looked for the slit in the crankcase vent line on my new rzr s and could not find it.

***********The slit vent hose is actually coming out of the "Valve Cover", not the crankcase, which is the topmost part of the engine.**********

Hopefully this will clear up some confusion in the future.

SouthBossierGrizz -> RE: 08 rzr snorkel (9/28/2008 8:16:33 PM)

The slit in the hose that folks refer to is the hose that comes from the valve cover to the airbox, usually marked by a white stripe.  As for the other vents, there are four hoses ran into the frame behind the seats, one for the rear diff, two on the transmission and one for the fuel tank.  Also, there is a vent on the fuel module, on the bottom that has a check valve.  I've never snorkeled that one, never had a problem with it before.  The front diff vent is under the hood, also, the radiator reservoir need to be snorkeled.  There is a vent (pin hole) in top of the red cap.

Just by a kit from Bayou Snorkels! Its sooooooo much easier that way!

cspyy -> RE: 08 rzr snorkel (9/30/2008 3:28:52 PM)

im doing my own right now, cause i am eliminating the stock air box and using the K&N apollo up where i can see it

1Bad450 -> RE: 08 rzr snorkel (10/7/2008 2:56:33 PM)

Ok - So here is what I have gathered.

Valve Cover - Because of slit hose
Radiator Cover - Because of pinhole on cap
Front Diff
Rear Diff
Gas Tank
2 on trans (is one of these on the t-case?)
Throttle Body (fuel module) with check valve

Is there also one on the crankcase?

Grease for airbox lid

Also - What are the sizes of all these hoses that need to be replaced?

Thanks!

cspyy -> RE: 08 rzr snorkel (10/7/2008 3:52:38 PM)

all 1/4" except the valve cover which is 1/2"

we're getting all these terms confused, there is a vent at the base of the cylinder, i would call that the crankcase, since that is where the crankshaft is.

there is another on the transmission housing, where the shifter cable hooks up, on top of that housing

the one with the slit, i would call a valve cover breather, cause that is the valve cover and this all applies the same to cars/trucks

i didnt do anything for the radiator overflow bottle, its a pinhole that im not really worried to much about

throttle body, correct

front and rear diff, correct

& fuel tank

Here's some great details on snorkling a RZR.
