how do you drain your gear oil from rear diff?

bustedknuckles -> RE: changing diff lube (7/24/2008 3:47:09 PM)

Small 8mm head plug on the bottom of the diff. Front right side, rear left side.

jaidendarrell -> RE: changing diff lube (7/24/2008 3:49:17 PM)

gear oil is like grease and wont come out of that small hole...

badakodiak -> RE: changing diff lube (7/24/2008 3:53:15 PM)

yea it will, gear oil is 80w-90, as long as you dont have abuncha mud in there it will come out.

bustedknuckles -> RE: changing diff lube (7/24/2008 3:53:31 PM)

Its helps to warm it up first. Also if you pull the 17mm head fill plug it will vent and come out easier.

outdrsmn82 -> RE: changing diff lube (7/24/2008 4:03:24 PM)

so its best to run it first to warm it.  good. then vent the top as well cool. where exactly is the "fill line"?

jaidendarrell -> RE: changing diff lube (7/24/2008 4:07:29 PM)

no fill line just put in 8 oz to 8 1/2 oz....thanks for the earlier tips, worked well!!

bustedknuckles -> RE: changing diff lube (7/24/2008 4:07:36 PM)

You fill it in the 17mm head plug about midway up the diff on the opposite side from the drain plug. No "fill line". If it has another 8mm plug just below the fill plug that is your "fill line. If not, put just under 8 oz.

jaidendarrell -> RE: changing diff lube (7/24/2008 4:14:29 PM)

i just refilled mine, to the 8mm hole on the fill plug side and it only took around 5 oz....normal? or go ahead and try to put more in??

bustedknuckles -> RE: changing diff lube (7/24/2008 4:18:42 PM)

You have to fill it very slow. It will back up out of the fill plug.

outdrsmn82 -> RE: changing diff lube (7/24/2008 4:43:52 PM)

so you have to let is settle as well?

i am going to have to look at mine to see exactly what yall are talking about. so i can better understand. thanks. ill be back.
