polarismaster800 -> what do i do to get a broken bolt removed (7/23/2008 11:01:19 PM)

i have a sportsman 800 and i noticed the tire wobling then i realised the rear swing arm bolt had completly broken off and i could easily replace it but the old one is broken off and half way into the treads i can't reach it to turn it with vice grips is there any way to drill it out or something    please help.

yup thats easy enough. just get a bolt extractor or "easy out" and drill a hole in the middle of the bolt, pound in your easy out and presto.  should be able to get an easy out at any hardware or tool store.

and if its not rusted up in it lots of times u can just use a reverse drill bit and it will pull it out

The bolt you are talking about is Grade 8, so expect it to be difficult to drill through.  The bolt extractors work awesome, just dont force it - remember easy does it.  If you break the tip off inside the bolt you are going to have a REAL fun time trying to drill that out!

Exact same thing happened on my 500 SP.  These guys have the right advice, took me about 5 minutes once I had the parts off and the right tools.  Easy fix.
